Are you sure about Manitoulin? I'm sure they limit their trucks to only 55mph. I wouldn't want to drive like that. I would not be able to stay awake.

Heard B&D payed well and had decent trucks and governed at 110. Was going to go there, but heard about someone not having a job to go back to after a vacation. That killed it for me.

    Hello Stefan,
i shouldn't rely on Plains to get you a lmo.
I came to Canada 4.5 years ago. Bison transport offered me a contract after getting here in Alberta i had to apply for AINP after being approved for you apply for PR took me 3.5 years after getting here, but finally i am a Permanent Resident
Before i came i had to prove i had at least 10 years experience driving truck.
I advice you to find a big outfit get through those few years and you're home free.
BTW at Bison i got payed exactly the same as anyone else [made $65000 first year]

Sure if companies can't find drivers in Canada ' and it's not just the trucking industry that Is recruiting from outside Canada just about every other industry .

It's not that there isn't enough drivers stacks, it's that there's not enough good paying jobs. If h and r paid 28 bucks an hour I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem filling seats.

Thank you all for replying.. unfortunately, Plains doesn't employ foreign workers :( once i have PR they would not hesitate to employ me. Either way, I have to postpone my departure due to the recent law changes in here so I guess in year and a half I will be looking into finding work in Canada again.. I have already contacted all the major corporations in Canada so I am familiar with Bison, H&R,... I'll check the topic Prairie Boy suggested(thx!).

I don't think Plains hires employee drivers. My husband pulled for them as an O/O for a couple of years.
I remember when they bought out Swan Energy, they sold all their trucks (not the trailers) and gave us O/Ops first dibs.
Anyone who was an employee driver was lookin for work elsewhere.... So I understand. Perhaps they've changed their policy.

They didn't change their policy, I was looking for work with one of the o/o's working for Plains, he told me that they would have to approve or disapprove him employing me and they were not happy about it and said that they will let him go if he hires me. Pretty harsh.
