Can you give me your engine serial number? Your truck, I believe should fall under the 500k mi heavy part warranty, liners move around and ruin the counter bores of the block. The cummins and peterbilt dealers I deal with knew right away what the problem was, just that they had to pull it apart to be positive.

Engine serial number 79388222, it sounds like the cummins dealer knows exactly what is going on, but they are doing all they can to stay tight lipped about any kind of cummins warranty. They claimed they needed to test and eliminate the egr cooler for "warranty" purposes. When i first called and set up the appointment, they mentioned that they might be able to apply for assistance from cummins. .(they ran the serial number while on the phone with me, before i even had an appointment).. I just seems a little fishy to say the least......Why are we talking about assistance and warranty purposes, if there is no warranty?

It seems that i have now warranty from cummins, and the Peterbilt dealer is being very vague as to what they will cover or help with. I am curious what the consensus is on this. How long do the cummins heads last?,the cams? Should i be worried about these parts with this kind of mileage? Or should i be ok with just fixing the headgasket, and getting back to trucking as soon as possible. I dont have the money for an inframe right now, but i dont want to be nickle and dimed by engine problems for the next three years. I fully planned on deleting the egr and dpf, which should eliminate all the carbon in the oil that rapidly wears these engines out. If i do that as soon as possible, can i run on this motor with a new headgasket till 700-800k miles? Anyone have any experience with this?

So i just got the truck back from Peterbilt, They ended up having Cummins come in and cut all six counterbores and basicly rebuilt the entire bottom end of the motor under warranty. The number 5 cylinder liner had dropped .005 of an inch. All the cylinders had fretted the block, and needed repair. I guess Cummins has updated the liner with a brass stiffiner to keep the liners in place? Thats what the tech told me. It took way longer than it should've, but all in all i got a near full inframe for about 1100.00 of my own money. Combined with the other parts they threw at it trying to fix this problem, i almost have a new truck! Now it just will last for a while......
