I have a 06 Columbia and would like to upgrade the stock radio. Does anyone have any idea on how to go about doing that? Specifically? SPECIFICALLY???? lol. Basically I'd like to be able to hook up an mp3 player and/or satellite radio without having to use external fm transmission devices (only have ONE cigarette lighter that's feeding two other outlets - gps & phone charger). Also, if there is a brand/model you can recommend would be greatly appreciated. Thanks![]()

FLs use Panasonic, or did, and you can buy at a dealer to get the right harness, or buy a harness for the radio you want, going to another brand can be done, but you get into customizing.
The radio I'm using has been in a FLD, a Columbia or 2, and now in a Cascadia. I like the radio and don't need satellite. The radio has the same plugs as a new one. The new one wasn't great as a radio.F1EXPRESS and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
Do you want to replace it with an upgraded OEM deck (which has mp3 plug and some with USB port)? If so its really simple but if your in a company truck, I wouldn't advise it as you can catch hell for it. A new OEM deck will come with a set of keys which you insert into the deck via the 4 holes in the otter edges of the deck. Pull slightly outward from each other and slowly slide the old deck out. The new deck should hook up directly the same way as the old via wire harness and AM/FM antenna cable plug then push back into place. New deck comes with a port plate for mounting which you may have to change out. Careful pulling the locking tabs on the inside edges as not to damage it as you may need it again later on for the old deck. If its a company truck, just ask your shop and they should be able to upgrade for you. If its your own truck and you want one of the more snazzy decks with the flip/removable face then I'm not real sure but I believe it would be the same way just mount the face on after installation. Any subs and amp will require a separate adapter harness to fit the freightliner wiring harness plug. Hope this helps.

Oh and I'm not sure because I haven't bought a new satellite radio extertal dock in a few years but when I bought mine, it came with the power wires and such but required an addtional signal block and wire to get the signal from the dock to the deck in order for the deck to receive the signal for it to work but that signal block was a major PITA to find and looked for 3 months before I was finally able to find one so a deck with satellite radio already built in would be the better way to go.

Use a VW adapter to the new radio. -
I recently spoke to someone in the parts department at Freightliner about this. I was advised not to put just any radio in my truck as it wouldn't be able to withstand all the vibration. I would only recommend putting a radio in your truck that is specifically designed for a truck.

I bought my current radio from FL they had on on sale. AM/FM/CD and it has a jack for my satellite. As far as power goes I bought a 3way that plugs into my lighter and it handles anything I need. The 3way also has a USB charging port. The radio was @ $150.00 and the charging block was just a few bucks. The nice thing about the radio from FL was that it took about 5 minutes to install because of the OEM plug.
