Just a random thought about you O/O folk. Do you decide prior to becoming an O/O what you are going to pull and stick with that before buying your truck? Like pulling van/reefer you'd buy a high rise compared to pulling tank/flat you'd purchase a mid roof? Or, do you buy a high rise and pull van/reefer but still pull tank/flat or vise versa? I'd think if you bought a mid roof and pulled van/reefer it wouldn't be aero efficient?

You can get fiberglass air fairings fit to a mid roof that will give it the aero of a condo if you are pulling a van or refer. Not much you can do for a condo if you are going to fladbed or tanker though.

Sure does. I had a tandem axle flatbed with 10 ft spread. Had a Pete with ex hood and would buy another. Besides I think it looks out of place to have an anteater hooked up to an oil rig or a D8. I don't care about aero, I like the long hood big motor and fast truck.

Easy Fact and you answer your thread yourself. Say AT LEASE an Areo Tractor gets at LEAST 1 MPG MORE THAN a LONG NOSE MID ROOF. You do say easily 100K miles a year divided by say 6MPG (Non AREO)= 16,666 gallons times average price gallon (say 3.90) = 65K a year in Fuel. NOW take AREO truck that averages 7MPG at 100K miles = 14,285 Gallons times average price gallon 3.90 = 56K spent in fuel minus NON AREO at 65K year and you save $ 9 K a YEAR in your pocket. So now would you rather waste 9K a year for pat on back for long nose nice truck compliments or get AREO set up and put 9K in YOUR pocket???? Imagine what 9K EXTRA in your pocket could pay for............

With me hauling chemicals it's prudent to go for a mid roof condo so I don't have potential problems when I'm loading/ unloading at some of the chemical plants. I don't think aerodynamics is much if a factor when I'm buying, but other drivers may have other opinions.

Its best to by the right truck for the job... what you bring home at the end of the week is what counts. The smart OO thinks about mpg. The better your mpg the more money in your pocket. Now their is nothing wrong with looking good going down the road but you better be able to afford to do so. Remember 45 to 50% goes out your stack in fuel. Thats not including a truck payment

If you're blowing 45-50% of your rate out the stacks then you need to address that problem first and consider the "fuel economy bonus" later.
