Cold isn't really an issue without an APU. The trucks have bunk heaters that'll turn your truck into a sauna if you like!

It's been suggested already, but let me reiterate, read through the many posts that detail what it's actually like on the road trucking for Central. I found several of them searching these forums and the best of which I have read was "The Adventures of Team Kilingon", which can be found by Searching for LadyK. It currently spans 169 pages and contains a wealth of information. Take your time read the whole thing from the beginning(it took me about 2 days but was more than worth it). I start with CR on Dec. 9th and I feel I now have a pretty good idea of what I'm getting myself into. Also, take the time and study for your CDL prior to going school. I have no doubt they will teach what you need know to pass the tests, but it never hurts to get a jump start. Best of luck to you.dennisroc, Lady K and Arkansas Frost Thank this.

I'm not saying we stay cold. It's just fueling the truck and occasionally chaining. Plus checking the truck and trailer out before and after your trip if it's snowing out. I have a bunk heater in my truck. It's 25 outside in PA but I'm watching tv in a t-shirt. No idling, and not cold! But you better believe I'm grabbing my beanie before I go outside.dennisroc Thanks this.

Avon, New York to Minooka, IL in -1hr!!! I totally got this. I just need a hill steep enough to glide up to 88mph.
Thanks goes out to the Klingons! I darted reading your old adventure stories and I was going to finish them in a day. But about page 20 I remembered my girl got a new smart phone and we skyped for the first time. A little pixelly but it totally made my day. Right after that I got offered a load that needed saving which kept the wheels turning on my truck (always a good thing.) I still remember a year ago if someone called and I ran myself hard enough to get hungry, I'd stop and eat first chance I got. Then I'd be complaining about needing a washout and no time on my 70. I've also deadheaded all the way to Blue Beacon from Bethlehem, PA. Another can O'worms but 2am on a Sunday you sometimes don't have options. Yesterday I nuked a burrito, got directions to the Hot Wash in Allentown, and managed to squeeze in a 2 hr break before running to the washout. Which meant I was ready to run when they gave me the new load. I said give me 8 an a nap and I'll be there before they open. We'll see how rescheduling goes. Kind of happy to be at a lower stress level in my trucking career. Alright enough blabbing, paperwork and housekeeping time. Happy Monday, lol

Im not sure if I'm getting thanksgiving off or not. He said either I'll be out all week. Or home Wednesday. I'm hoping Wednesday. All my family is coming in from out of town. So I'm excited.

This loop we've been chasing this storm across the 40... We were in it at Kingman! and I think we caught up to it again in Webber Falls, OK... But it's turning daylight and we only have 850 miles to go and 20 hours to get there... This is almost like work!!
Arkansas Frost Thanks this. -
