It depends on the person which is the problem with drugs and alcohol. NO one person is the same as another and if one small level doesn't affect the person but the same level knocked them on their butt, that is where the problem is.

Update on the law and driving a personal vehicle in Washington.
Drug testing of drivers in Washington is based on a ZERO TOLERANCE level.....so if you test at 5 nanagrams or higher for TCH you are guilty of driving under the influence of drugs in Washington. 5 nanograms means if you smoke weed today, you would not be able to legally drive for a week!!! I think a lot of people, including myself, were not at all aware of how strict the driving standard is in Washington with regard to weed....and I am glad it is this tough, as it means safer roads for all drivers, including truck drivers.

FWIW I live in the pot growing capital of the world. The local newspaper claims that 50% of the local population is involved in some way with pot. Local cops now have a saliva test kit that will indicate if you have smoked in the last 48 hours. It takes about a minute to do the test.

I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that the pot growing industry is a huge benefit to the local trucking industry.

I am convinced that having our economy dominated by the production of intoxicants (marijuana and wine) has totally efffed us up socially arond here.

In my younger years, it was cheap and easy to get high if you could not afford it. Just get in a car with someone smoking it. If it is in your system then you are still under the influence of the chemical and it is still effecting your brain.

It is kind of like the tobacco growing here in the midsouth....it kills many folks once it is harvested and rolled in cigarettes. It would seem not to be a good way of making a living, knowing your product is going to kill so many folks.

They have really started enforcing DUI pot here in WA now compared to before it was legal, not what the potheads where planning on I'm sure lol.
Not so sure about the roads being any safer ,I don't think (at least so far) most weed smokers are changing their habits any even though they face possible trouble if caught.
It's always been illegal to smoke weed and drive and possession used to be illegal as well but that didn't stop anybody.

I like others would like to see some better testing done on when and what. To the people that say if you fail you don't belong in trucking. Well there is cbd rich strains that are out now and have little to no Thc. Aka the ingrediant that makes you high. The little it has is not enough to get you high. It Has cbd which helps with a bunch of conditions. I have chrones disease which basicly my intenstense is inflamed. This is no way alters my ability to drive a truck. Cbd is a natural anti inflamitory which works better for me than the meds that are out that cause long term damage to my body. Although the cbd helps my disease to almost non exsistant and I don't not feel one thing from the tiny traces amount of thc in the cbd rich strain I would still fail a drug test and be fired. I strongly agree that they need to test for when the thc is in the system and if a driver is under the influence at the time. I like others do not want a driver high on the road. Though a driver taking cbd oil or cbd strain of weed that does not get high but would fail a drug test is something that needs to be addressed. (Sorry for bad grammer my phones auto correct is retarded)

They should keep drug testing how it is. If they find marijuana in your system, you're done (unless it's some type of medication you're taking that has cbd, etc).

It's all nice and dandy to say we should be allowed to smoke, just make sure you're not high while you drive but guess what..? Not everyone in this world is as honest as you or me. It gives TOO MUCH room for people to take advantage.

If you want to smoke weed and be a trucker, have a backup job somewhere else out the industry incase you get your ### canned.
