good cb for newbie

    Going to go out with trainer Wednesday afternoon for 21 days then get own truck and was curious about best cb to grab that wont cost an arm and a leg and if any tips on using it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Yeah nothing wrong with the little Cobra 19s, that is what I used as my first CB, still have it for a backup.

    I agree with 4noReason, a 40.00 Cobra worked just fine for me as well. Drivers just don't use the CB the way they used to. The last time I drove was about 2 months ago and there was very little radio chatter, and the only time I talked on mine was to communicate with the fuel desk at Sapp Bros. scales.

    Thanks and in my tired state I just saw the cb section and first post was about starter cb lol, sorry posted here.

    I got a hand me down cb from family member
    I have cobra ltd. I spent $60 getting it peaked and tuned now I have a 5 mile radius before it was barley a mile

    I bought a used Cobra 29 from the CB shop at the TA in Hebron OH when I first started driving over 4 yrs ago. That guy that ownes the shop told me that someone had dropped it off to get fixed and never came back to pick it up. He charged me what the repair fee was, $25. I still use it to this day.

    Agreed on the cheap ones. Anything that you get from the store is going to be fine to talk to the guard shack. Amazon has the small Cobra mentioned above, and also a small Uniden. Each is under $35. Walmart has similar pricing.

    No sense spending hundreds of dollars on something that you end up not using.

    yup yup i just use them for traffic. no one ever uses them. thats why i spent my pilot points on them.
