I think you can do it. Plenty of hands out here older than you.

In the last several days, I have talked to a few recruiters with different companies and expressed my concern that my age (67) would be a bit too old to be just starting. To my surprise and relief, no one had any issues with the age...as long a I could pass the DOT physical. I retired last year and have found a couple of things: retirement is great fun, and it does not pay very well! :biggrin_25519: So, I am trying to find the right school and will be proceeding to become a driver. I say, go for it!

Dear tyke....when i was in school, my classmate was 75 and he was accepted...he retired 40 years from gm, kicked around a while then wanted a change...i myself did it at 57, recvd cdl trng thru cr england, did my 6 month stint to satisfy class fee, then moved on...yes with "alliance truck co's, ie cre, swift, knight etc, u will get about .26 to .28 cpm in beginning but then u will need to move to better paying co's which start about $ 800-1000 + a week (bring home)....if u can, pay for it yourself, go to a reputable school that takes longer than 17 days....u need at least (i think) 60-90 days class rm (better ones are 9 months) then second seat with a veteran for at least a minimum of 6 months.....that is if u want to know the real skinny on how things really work. Finding someone who is closely matched to you is critical and who has patience for training...learning to drive takes patience and it only comes one day at a time...finally network with a driver every chance u get and learn all u can...one accident can ruin u...no matter how small so, watch your p's and q's, run it legal, ie log what u do, do what u log (this will satisfy dot) there r shortcuts will will learn as u go...good luck. Ps....drive co for first 3 years....

It's not your age, it's your current physical condition that matters. If you are 25 with high blood pressure and weigh 300+ pounds, no nobody is gonna hire you cause they can't. If you are 70 years old and in shape like another current 70 year old person - Mr. Mick Jagger - you could probably get hired at 10 out of 10 places you apply too. It's not your age, it's your current condition.

I am in the same situation. Took early retirement and am bored out of my mind. What did you end up doing?I am scheduled to go to a Community College that has a class starting in January. When one of my sons heard about it,he asked if he could join me. Obviously, I said yes. After our schooling and training we are going to see if we can team.Best of luck to you.Captain Call
