I've done plenty of things wrong. Some of it is documented right here at TTR.

However, when other folks try and minimize it - it's only natural for the counterpoints to come out. When you have 2 toddlers counting on you for support, getting a "wild hair" has a whole new price-tag .

Well, as I see it he has a couple of options. Start by selling off toys and try to get the truck on the road as an owner operator with his own authority, pay excessively high insurance, and work his butt off. I don't see any major carrier giving him a lease with the hiccup.

Take a driver improvement course and do any remedial thing he can to minimize the charge against him. Or sell off the truck, and do something else until some time passes and keep his nose clean in the meantime.

I have not gone through and read his other posts, but the one thing I do know is that a cop knows it's a CDL when he's writing the citation. So, there must have been a good reason that he didn't get a break at the time of the incident.

Learning the lesson typically happens a lot quicker than paying the consequences over it. Sometimes, those last years.

Sure, we've all made mistakes. Some bigger than others. 70+ in a 25 is a pretty big one though and isn't going to be met with a lot of coddling.

Your point is well taken though.

Nobody is perfect. I slowed down a whole lot since getting a CDL and depending on that to feed my family. I've also got more than a few instances of 50+ mph over posted speed limit in my past as well, though none of them resulted in citations or worse (though they were on highways). And, I have to agree, it's ridiculously easy to clear 70 on virtually any modern motorcycle, doing it someplace posted 25 is a serious lapse in judgement.

Lawyer up, and hope for a reduction in charges, but realize that this can be a career ender for a company driver.

Don't worry, the copy will get you 7 days after the mistake like on your logs.
