Your friend may want to wait another 7 years in order to get a full 10 year CLEAN DRIVING record under his belt. While he is at it, your friend may want to also get a really decent work history, and become as physically fit and healthy as possible. Afterwards, your friend may want to then go to a decent truck driving school along with trying to find a decent trucking outfit to work, and possibly retire from it.
Good luck to your friend.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I doubt the DUIs is the problem but losing his license for 10 yrs may be a huge red flag.
sal and TheDude1969 Thank this. -
I don't understand why he had his license suspended for 10 years. Any time a driver has a suspension show up on his license it will raise red flags and will need to be explained. The extended suspension would be extremely troubling to most potential employers. In this business, you simply cannot allow things to build up. Any issues must be dealt with immediately. One thing your friend should do is be truthful. Don't lie on the application. Some applications ask about suspensions or criminal activity during a certain time period and others ask "Have you ever" been convicted of a dui, felony, etc., With criminal history, most are primarily interested in the last 10 years. They are also interested in the last 3 years on an mvr. Keep in mind that federal regulations require that carriers have a 10 year work history on all drivers. All time must be accounted for during that 10 years, including unemployment.

I think you might be right , Patty................I'd call some recruiters and see what they have to say about itpattyj and TheDude1969 Thank this.

lol classic response. I am in trucking management, I will tell you frankly that honesty goes a LONG way, at least when I am looking over resumes. Maybe because I come from the school of hard knocks, the mere fact that you can come back from these life mishaps tells me you have some level of character. In the end, you have demonstrated character by triumphing some negatives, where as the guy that spit polished, well, makes me think - what are you hiding!?TheDude1969 Thanks this.

All depends on what state he lives in.
NY for example, 10 years after a DUI, it drops off the MVR.
And suspensions drop off after 4 years.
In florida,
mine shows offenses from the 1970's........TheDude1969 Thanks this. -
-
Depending on where it was that may not be possible.
I had a DUI in Oregon and the law there is never, no how no way....I've tried.
Even though mine was almost 38 years ago. -
It may be dropped from the MVR but a MVR is not all they look at. They will still be on a criminal background check.
Best to disclose them all. -
If your " friend" didn't learn from his first DUI, he doesn't belong behind the wheel of a truck.
