An hour from my house...not a fan of the Amish and anyone who doesn't pay taxes shouldn't be on taxpayer roads...with that said, that's a tragic accident and that truck driver is in the wrong...

Condolences to the families and communities involved.

I see them in lots of places, they are in the southern MN area of around Canton, there are some around Hazleton, IA, Waukon,IA(Elon), and Fennimore, WI for the nearby ones and probably other places. I have loaded chickens grown by Amish in IN not far from Elkheart, and the most I see is on and around US 20 in northeast IN, as I don't get to that part of PA often, it's off the shortest route to the places I usually go.

In MN, they use lanterns and white triangles on the buggy, they are reflectorized but not orange SMV signs, I always go past them easy, no throttle and no jake and give them room.

Whenever I see that amish sign warning the public that this is an amish community I proceed with caution..Most the time I either see a family in a buggy or walking.I slow down because I don't wanna scare the horse and they always wave.I have talked to amish and I find them to be the most friendest ppl and man can they cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact I got a delicious tuna salad receipe from an amish lady.

I had a similar incident in Howe Indiana 20 years ago pulling a 16' wide mobile home in the snow. The road was clear but it was snowing enough that I was looking for a place to ditch for the night. My pilot car driver was yelling about a buggy being on our side of the road but I could not see him till I was 50 feet behind him. If I had a 12' wide and no pilot car I would have hit him.

Most times I never encounter any buggies in the areas where I see the warning signs. What clues me in to their presence is the horse poop along the sides of the road.

You can look at the road and see the cutting on it from the hooves.
