I'm wondering what you Maverick drivers are doing as far as ice/freezing rain on your flatbed once you arrive at a shipper. Do remove it all? Leave it? Bust up the ice were your placing your 4x4's? And if your removing it every time, what method are you using?

You probably ain't gonna see a Maverick truck even MOVE if there is ice.

i get a shovel and break it off. If you load on it I hope your load has skates.

One time it snowed and iced on a trailer and I cleaned it off for the 4 byes but when I scaled I was over so I had to move 2500 lbs of snow and ice off.
bowhunter3714 Thanks this. -
Maverick generally doesn't want their drivers moving the truck then there's that kind of ice accumulation, although I'm sure most guys have done it at least a few times.
Theyre very very big on safety. Even now as I type this, operations is rescheduling loads and avoiding new loads that involve the ice storms crossing the country now. They are very much of the opinion that nothing on that truck is worth killing or dying over, and trying to pound off thousands of pounds of ice is not worth a life altering injury.bowhunter3714 Thanks this. -
Thanks CaptaintX3. I was just wondering. I understand safety is number one. Myself having a Military mind set, safety is a top priority as well as the mission. When the mission first has been engrained into your head for so many years its hard to think otherwise.

You're welcome.
Even if Maverick didn't have that mindset, I do, because at the end of the day it's MY license and life. If I don't feel safe driving, I don't. Fortunately most reputable companies share in that attitude, because nowadays even a single wrongful death lawsuit could literally break a company.
I think the real trick is using the safety shutdown as sparsely as possible. I don't make a habit of calling in and saying I'm not moving. I've only done it three times so far since I've been here, twice for weather and once for illness. Never got a single argument out of anyone. I know there are guys out there that wanna shut down constantly because they're too tired or whatever, and that's what pisses off companies.
If you're a good driver with a good record of delivering loads, no company worth a #### will question it if you shut down due to safety concerns.bowhunter3714 and Blind Dog Thank this. -
Last year I carried some salt with me and used it to melt ice where I had to place my coil. Will have to get some more for this year. If the roads are bad I will park it for sure. Right now my my load is covered with snow...so I will have to deal with it and the freezing rain that is coming tonight. Spending night at lowes in state college pa.

Thanks Jim, I seen part of a game this afternoon, don't know who was playing but the snow was thick coming down. Some were in the northeast. I've read your thread along with others over the past couple of months. Really appreciate all the information you and the other Drivers provide. Your post's led me to contact Maverick a few weeks back. They e-mailed some document to look over. I'm applying with them after the first of the year. We'll see what happens. Again thanks.
