My front main seal drips , doesnt leave a puddle. How do i change the front main seal on a 3406E CAT and is it like any other engine front main? does the front cover have to come off? and will i need any special tools? and will i have to retime the Engine? Its not a priority but i would like to keep a tight truck. Ive done a Detroit 12.7 before. Oh does the 3406 Leak at the front cover alot? it might not be the seal because when i let it run at about 1500 rpms its not leaking nor wet, but right under the seal is wet

If you have done a detroit you can do a cat same procedure just different size tool. Yea the covers will leak I might really get a good look before I put a seal in.

I agree with wore out there is a Cat front specific seal tool I just did mine along with the Bull gear and Idlers 1.5 million on it. Doing just the seal is a job only because of where it is ie. NO ROOM good luck
