APUs also need the particulate filter to be legal to be run in CA, as to a truck engine running on nearly the same amount of fuel as an APU, that isn't going to happen, even running the motor cut back to 3 or 4 cylinders won't save enough fuel to be competitive with an APU.
A Rigmaster APU is available with a particulate filter, I don't know how much that filter costs, and I know it will need regeneration from time to time.I don't know about other APUs. -
the sad thing about this new law is that it targets the DRIVERS not the companys that put the drivers in the truck with the crappy emissions and such. i think they should start finning the companies and see how long cali makes it when all the companies stop goin into that sad lil state

Okay, so I just called the bossman to get a loan to purchase a truck. 2004 pete flat top with a 48' spread, great deal at $98,000. The boss said he just got a notice saying that all trucks without new emissions equipped engines will need to have a emissions package installed by dec. 31 2008. This emissions packege costs $12,000 dollars. Now I know that these emissions trucks dont run like the older ones and thats why I want an older truck, he said putting the emissions package on a truck not designed for it is probably going to make it run worse than a new one with it already on there and designed for it. Anyway have you heard anything about this, also they said 2001 up trailers need to become complaint on the reefer engine tooo... Is this ridiculous or what? Please help with this info.

Holy Crap!

Yeah I said the same thing. I think that convinced me to just go to the dealership and buy a new truck, so I atleast have a warranty and a motor designed for that b.s.

But I wonder what in the world other folks will have to do, ones that can't afford the upgrade or the new truck... Seems like they will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
-
Welcome to the world of trucking. What will they do? They will be fined over and over again since California always has its hand out.
-
This is the way it is working... and by 2014, anything pre-2007 will be illegal in CA...

I talked to my father today. He has alot of connections to smaller companies in OK and KS. They are now refusing to run into CA. When he asked me what my opinion of them refusing was, I told him the plain truth.. I am encouraging out of state companies to boycott CA loads. It's that simple. If they cannot get goods in or out, they are going to pay heed. Until then, there is not much anyone can do.
It's got to be a campaign to educate the public, which means excessive media relations.. and we've got to hit the legislature where it hurts.. in the pocketbook and in the votes. Anything anyone can do to accomplish this will be appreciated.
