I can't believe that you're still working for this guy. With 3 yrs experience, you could have a job with any trucking company in the country by tomorrow. If you allow him to treat you like this, it's your own fault. Quit now.

Maybe look for a ride share on Craigslist.
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
I don't get vacation time, the owner of the truck lives in Tampa, the truck was supposed to be home for repairs and the company knew ahead of time that the load couldn't be delivered early, but the dispatcher didn't. The dispatcher keeps promising to get him home but keeps sending my co-driver to everyplace else but where he needs to be. I'm sorry that your situation didn't work out, but prior to leaving my co-driver I had permission as long as I paid my way home. Fine I bit the bullet and paid it, but I'm not paying for transportation to Detroit, when its a result of poor load management that me and my partner aren't both home. I'm not making any money being home, make very little when I'm out and I'm not paying my way to sit in bad weather in a hotel when I can be home.

I think you've answered your own question here...
-
Thank you, just spoke with my boss and she said that I have to pay my way because my co-driver and I accepted a load that couldn't be delivered early, when we only accepted it as it was the only load they had getting us out of California and were promised it could be delivered early. All I want for Christmas is a new trucking company to work for.

Since you're already home, I'd say that you probably should stay there and start looking. How long will it take for you to recoup the cost of your trip back to work - 2-3 weeks of pay?
-
I think you should go to work for another company that can get you home to see your family and you still can team if that's what you want if a company doesn't care about your family there is no way they gonna care about you go somewhere else if you don't stock with them nd your company sounds cheap to me, good luck.

There is 2 separate issues here. 1- You knew they keep you out like this, you continue to accept it, and took it upon yourself to go home, the cost is on you.
2- This company you work for sucks, plain & simple, and if you continue to drive for this guy, again it is on you. -
You should of asked them if they are commuting from Detroit, where you were stuck. Truck drivers get treated worse than dogs.

If you really enjoy teaming with your partner, then don't walk away, run from that company. You guys as an experienced team should have companies fighting to hire you, and actually make some real coin. Talk to your partner, see how he feels about changing companies. If he is on board with the idea, then start making some calls. My guess is you will find a much better company before lunch time. Good luck!
