This should help. I think the F refers to a forward shift bar housing, the transmission sets back farther in this cab configuration, everything else is the same, if anyone knows for sure please feel free to correct me. -
ok guys now the rto 958ll is driving me crazy my other truck ahas a 14709mll and its a 9 speed...can someone walk me through this trans...I drove it home empty so I didn't use all the gears lol no load so now im kinda at a lost... I was told it is a 13 speed by the old owner who never drove the truck he just paid someone else to drive it...but I was looking at the tag rto 958ll and was thinking it should be a 8 speed ..lol anybody can help..i know sounds crazy .....thanks
-
Does it have a lever on the dash marked low range or something like that?
-
It is what they call an 8 speed with low and low-low hence the 8LL. Basically just shift it like your 9 speed but where first gear is on the nine is what is called low and you should have either a button on the side of the shifter or an air switch on the dash or floor for deep reduction or low-low.
-
It has the 2 buttons on the shifter just like my 9speed..thanks for the help guys

The deep reduction wasn't anything that I ever used while on the road, if I got off the road to work at a job site and the ground was soft, that was the only place I ever used it, it is a really low range.

I think your problem is its a U pattern shift trans. The 9508LL I had was. When all the way to the right, high gear is forward, not back. A picture of your shifter with the air switches and I can tell you from there.Hammer166 Thanks this.

page 5 has the shift label. It is a turned around pattern like Cetane mentioned. And it is based on the 13 speed (I think all the LL's are, IIRC,) the difference is the deep reduction is where the splitter would be inside the transmission. It shares the service manual with 9509 and 9513 as they all use the same layout.123456 and Taildragon Thank this. -
I remember that after looking at the label, but it was far enough back in time that I couldn't get it out of the archives. There is an outstanding amount of knowledge on this forum about where to get information, even when it is old information.Hammer166 Thanks this.
