Hey all, starting up the training program today to get my CDL. I'l try to update as much as possible and as detailed as possible until I get onto a truck, as I've hated reading through others and it abruptly ends.
Arrived at the Greyhound station this morning at 6am. Called and the shuttle picked me and 6 others up and took us to the hotel. Checked in, got a room and an info packet with class start times, map and a general info packet to fill out. Now I came with my Permit, and have never drove a truck before. Since I came with the permit I got into a 4pm Driving Simulator class. After getting situated in the room and a nap, headed over to the simulator. There are 4 sim stations, and luckily only had 6 people today on them. There are 7 scenarios, starting from the basics of learning to shift, into driving in a city environment. Everyone picked up shifting pretty easy from never having done it including myself. We got lucky and got to finish all 7 before our first dayhere's a short vid of the simulator's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ83zGIykY0 (will be uploading trucking vids to this account). After sims I headed over to the cafe for some food. The first time you go to eat they give you the cafe allowance, 3 meals a day. Food was ok, not the best but free ;P Walked 2 blocks to Walmart to get bread and peanut butter. So that was the first pre day for me, have a roommate who is waiting on a trainer from the previous weeks class who said he's enjoyed the process so far and ready to get on the road. Guess there a bit short on trainers at the moment. First day of orientation tomorrow at 7am. I'l answer questions and update mostly at night, thanks for reading and tty soon.

Yea the sim was pretty cool and fun. They don't grade you on it, but you have to make it through each scenario without a crash or stuff like that lol. Just a way to intro you into shifting and looking for all the hazards and new signs to look out for.

That simulator is effin awesome! I want one!!!
-
the simulator looks a lot like Euro Truck Simulator 2. Even if it's not, it's still a pretty cool game.

LOL, Go ahead and tell Wally it's a game or Mike even. See how long you last not only on the simulator, but at Prime. As far as who Wally and Mike are, they run the Simulation lab. Oh and ask them while you are at it, where to put the quarter. Yeap, you will be out the gate LOL. Its not a game, and they take it VERY SERIOUSLY. Oh and BTW you have to pass the simulator before you can upgrade, and you would be surprised at the number of folks who can't.JimmyBones Thanks this.

In the sims don't go past a school bus with lights flashing . They will let you know some stuff . Don't call it a video game
... It's an important training tool. If they decide to plugin a random sports car or police car don't sweat it, the simlab instructors like to have fun with people.
When you upgrade from tnt to going solo you have more sims to do, one of which is done amid fellow upgraders who are appraising your driving ability . -
Got about 250k ...you could get one

When you sit the pre trip lecture be sure to write down exactly what they say where they say. "Pms", "abc", "Cbb"
pms- properly mounted and secure
cbb- cracked, bent, broken
abc- abrasions, bulges, or cut
there was a guy in my orientation group who could NOT understand this simple idea. He was later booted because it turned out he had a suspended D/L from his home state.
in all lectures turn your phone off; not on silent or vibrate but off, O-F-F off. Another guy in my orientation group got up on a safety lecture to answer his phone and as he did so he was told by the instructor "goodbye"n3ss Thanks this.
