Errrrrrrrr, right, so Walmart is going to avoid trucker automation just in case the North Korean's launch an EMP at us.
Buddy, you got bigger problems to worry about if an EMP hits us, disruption of the Walmart supply chain is the least of it.
Its obvious from your posts that you've never run a business, but as someone who has let me tell you it comes down to one thing only and that is making more $$$ than you shell-out and if automation reduces the costs it will be used relentlessly regardless of what conspiracy theories guys like you have.

Did your "hands on experience" predict the invention of the internet, the rise of Google or the explosion in tablet computing?
You could've made a killing on the stock market buddy. -

I joined into ROTC to try to become a pilot. Didn't care what I was in, just so long as I could fly. Then when I reentered MEPs for the physical/mental qualifiers AND the psych eval I was kicked for having a childhood history of ADD/ADHD.
Now, bear in mind, I wasn't trying to get into front line flight service duty; but rather just the air guard- and their entry requirements are slightly south of the USAF operates on. So I'm in the process of getting wavers for my psych history.
We're all just above ####### and Sib knows everything!
How dare you provide any evidence to the contrary, now he has to take time out of his busy day to make an under the belt remark and a singular sentence about how you're so wrong. -

Will automated trucks stay in their lane ?

Automation is here. Just about every industry I can think of is affected by it. The automation is effective in a confined environment where the variables are controlled.
In order for robotic vehicles to be let loose on the world technology need too over come two major issues.
The first issue deals with artificial intelligence. The human brain is the worlds greatest computer. It has the ability to alkalize all the inputs and only deal with the important issues. How many times have you taken your foot off the throttle because something did not look right of you heard a wired sound? A computer had to analyze each input based on its programming and is limited by its programming. Today's computers do not learn and can not adapt on there own this work is performed by updates.
The second issue is how to get the information from the outside world into the computer. thus would require sensors combined with internal data such as the maps in our gps units. we all have dealt with the errors in the gps data base, last week i made a delivery and pickup at a place that garmin and google had in two different locations. the sensors available today have some very serious issues and do not work all of the time.
The last issue that has plagued automation is how to deal with breakdowns. The current way of dealing with them is to stop the system and wait for a technician to fix it. How many times have each one if limped a truck off the road or to the yard? I can just imagine this in the LA freeways a vehicle on each one stopped waiting for the technician.Lux Prometheus Thanks this.
