Hello; I am currently enrolled at a cdl school, an I have three months of training before graduation(God willing). I've seen many recruiters and so far, Maverick is the company that has peaked my interest. To me a Recruiter is no more trustworthy than a car salesman. He/She will only tell you what you want to hear and do whatever possible to make a product/service appear to be the best thing ever. So I would like to hear from drivers about the following.
    1. How good is the training for newbies?
    2. Are the dispatchers and fleet managers difficult to deal with?
    3.Is freight constant?
    4. Is the pay decent (This is trucking so I'm not expecting to live in a mansion; but the recruiter claimed 40 cpm; I'm not sure if he was truthful or not)
    5. How many miles do you average weekly?
    6. How is the hometime (Recruiter claimed home every weekend although not a gurantee; I imagine a weekend out of the month is probably more accurte; but I would still like to get your opinion.)
7.Have the trucks been reliable; if you have broken down how long was it before you got your truck back (I see that Maverick has invested in a lot of newer trucks).
8.Is this a good company overall (I would like to stay with one company for at least two years. I have heard many discouraging stories from Werner, Cr England, and Swift drivers and I do not want to drive for a company that profits is the ONLY thing they care about.. I do understand that to most I am a number and I do not expect to have the world revolved around me, But I want a good starter company that can mold me into a good driver and keep me moving.)

All input is greatly appreciated. I'm leaning towards the glass division of Maverick but I am not sure if freight is constant with that. I am also consider the reefer division.
    Thanks Again

Maverick is not the only company I am considering; Roehl, Schneider, Melton, and U.S Xpress are companies I am also looking at. Of the companies listed, Maverick is the company that stands out the most. I live in Baltimore,MD. Hometime isn't a huge deal but would like to have maybe a weekend out of a month off.

My friend works at Maverick and likes it a lot. He says he gets 3 days of home time every 3 weeks and likes his pay. Maverick has a forum on this website..... http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/maverick/

I drove for maverick for two months before issues i had to deal with forced me to leave. Let me say this, in my brief time with maverick, it was the most memorable experience I've ever had. Their training is top notch, intense and they demand the best. Theeir instructors and staff are absolutely great. Their fllet managers will work with you. Mine was kevin thiry and he was in control of most of the dedicated runs. I ran out of carlisle pa. Freight there is always constant. I was making .51cpm as a dedicated glass hauler. Their equipment is pretty state of the art, and theyre all autos. Training in little rock lasts about two weeks. You'd either stay at the maverick hotel on site, or at the galloway down the road. They were adding a huge addition to the training center when I left. After training and testing at the end, you'd be out with a trainer for 21 days minimum. Since you're glass, you'd be over the road to runs all over the country. Make sure you get your passport because you will go to canada when you get your truck. After being out with your trainer, you will go back to little rock to eval out. This takes about 3 days. Then, if you stay glass, your truck will either be in laurinburg nc, theyll fly you there, or your truck is in carlisle, which is where I suspect you would be running out of. After getting your own truck, they'd send you with a load going home. Probably pilkington, right next to the laurinburg maverick terminal. Maverick is awesome, and maybe someday I will be able to go back. If you have any questions, please ask. Oh, if you go dedicated, you will be home every weekend. But the hitch is, if they get you home friday sometime, you will more than likely leave out sunday to get your monday morning delivery. Hope this helps you out!

And if you do go to maverick, heres some advice while in training at little rock. Never walk on the grass, always show up 10 minutes early, ask questions, no matter how stupid you may think they are, have a positive attitude and work hard.

You are barely within Maverick's hiring area for the Glass or Temp Controlled divisions. You are outside there area for Flatbed. You can check their hiring areas at
