I dug around in here and can't locate an answer to this.

I bought a cobra29 to have in the Cascadia I'm in now. In the compartment above the driver seat where the cb connections are there's a black wire and a tan wire. Bare and left hanging (I presume from the previous driver's cb). Unfortunately, I'm a cb newb and have no idea which one is which for connecting the power. The cobra has a black and a red to connect but I don't want to assume black goes with black and blow my new cb up.

    Any ideas?

just grab a cheap test light from any truck stop and find out which one is hot. Black is generally ground and white is hot but on many they are the same color
