I live in the Bay Area in CA, and work for a company here in the same town (I have a 2 mile commute), but if or when I go OTR, I'll have to "figure it out". I used to park the truck every 2 months in So. CA and fly home. That gets expensive after a while though, but I can also rack up the airline points.
Craigslist is useful, but can be risky because anyone can use it and say "Surrrrrre, go ahead and park here, we'll take care of ya (wink wink)!" Yes, I learned that one the hard way around 20 years ago.
If parking in an industrial area or shopping center parking area (or anywhere), make sure you have written and documented permission from the person in charge of the parking area and that no others have the authority to tow vehicles away.
Erik.
Don't live near a truck stop? Where do you park on hometime?

It's not easy to park in my home town of Austin so I rent a space in a boatyard only 30 mins from home. but I'm hardly there.
but it's cheap and safe. People have had their trucks stolen here when they foolishly park on a street.screams Thanks this. -
I would recommend that you put a note on the window of how to get in touch with you or if the truck needs to be moved. It would be best to get permission from the owner or manager of any business or property where you want to park. I have known a few who rent space at local storage facilities. Some charge about $100/month. There is a guy near me that owns property with a warehouse and he charges $10/day to park or $100/month. It is becoming more difficult to find parking in some regions of the country.

I do exactly this, got a killer deal, $5.00 a day. And deduct it on taxes.
Only a mile from the house, I can drop the trailer bobtail home, or leave the truck with it. -
there is a secured 24 hr guarded drop lot in Stockton. Paved, lighted.

Had the same problem where I live, no parking. Atlantic storage was near by. Myself and
other truckers started asking about parking, now their lot is full of semi trucks. Paved, lighted,
secure, video cameras everywhere, access with security code only. Worth every penny I pay
to park there, and tax deductible. -
Another option is truck or trailer repair shops. They'll usually rent you a space for a few days or by the month.

When my bf is home on weekends, he parks in the business parking lot across the street from our house. As long as he comes in after 5 on Fri and gone before 6 on Monday they are fine with it. We also have a friend with property about a mile away where he can park if needed. The closest truck stop is in the next town.
-
Just move out of the city and get a pice of property in an area where you can park your own work truck at home.
