We've actually done ok with just a regular ice cooler, but whats the point if all you can make are sandwiches or food you have to take into a truck stop to heat in a microwave? There are many times that we are not overnighting at a travel center.....many times we overnight at the receiver, and they dont offer a drivers room. On those nights, we either have to eat sandwiches (high in starch, fat, sodium), or do without. I realize that with trucking companies, you have to pick your battles.....no company is perfect. SNI has changed a lot since we first began with them. We get the miles we want, we never have to beg for hometime, the equipment is better than a lot of companies, but dont mess with our ability to exist while on the road, making money for THEM. They need to come up off their wallets and put diesel APU's on the trucks, have factory, or at least company wired power inverters, and let the driver actually LIVE on the road, instead of simply existing. Im sure there are other weaknesses in the company, but if they would fix these issues, the rest would fall in line. Its a great starter company, and I guess we have outgrown it. It might be time for us to move on.

I don't work for SNI nor would I ever but If they don't want drivers cooking in trucks I sure would hope everyone is getting a pay raise... DOUBTFUL... I also wouldn't be surprised at all if they are one of the proponents of having "driver cams" so they can play big brother on there own drivers... Its bad enough how much the governed 62 mph companies tailgate going down the highway... Imagine if everyone did 62...

I started with SNI, worked for them 3 years. I had no complaints but, since that time I have learned they are with ATA and a handful of other mega carriers that are on the side of progressivism. They want EOBRS, speed limiters and I bet cameras. I don't know for a fact that they get Government kick backs for hiring drivers but, I would imagine they do. So, why should they put APU's on their trucks? It's so sad that some of these mega carriers and an association like ATA want to squeeze out the small carriers, or single truck operators. I don't mind that they WANT to do it but, lobbing the Government to get it mandated just makes me sick.

No cameras so far but it wouldnt surprize me if they werent far behind. Usually, the cameras are for insurance purposes, so maybe they will go with them soon. They are pushing sleep studies pretty hard right now, perhaps just behind a federal mandate. IMHO, dont whine about driver safety if you limit a drivers ability to control his or her sleep environment, (no idle between 70 and 20 degrees - it may be 69 degrees outside, but inside that tin can its a lot warmer than that), and put limitations on what he can eat. Im off the truck for a while, and have been doing my best to cook ahead so that I can provide healthy meals, but he cant eat them if he cant heat them......cold veggie lasagna? I dont think so. It surprises me that there are not more drivers becoming ill from food poisoning......when youre rolling, trying to make a deadline, its not always possible to stop and get more ice. He keeps his doors closed as much as possible in order to get miles and make deadlines. The plug in cooler was a good way to keep food cold and edible, and the lunchbox stove a good way to heat it up at the end of a long day of driving. So much for convenience. I do believe that SNI will very soon be in our rearview mirror. Are there any good, driver friendly companies anymore?

What OC are you out of? No one from SNI has ever sent anything about this to me. Even my classroom instructor suggested these things.

I asked the recruiter at the hiring event about the plug in coolers and burton ovens being banned from use. He said that if true, it's the first he's heard of it.

I have two plug in coolers in my truck, nobody has ever said anything nor have I ever heard of them being banned.
