Ummmm....in what capacity? Because; if you have been driving for 6 months, and you can't back a trailer....perhaps truck driving is not your forte.
Not trying to be mean, but, a person shouldn't need more than 6 months to figure it out.KW Cajun, HalpinUout and bigblue19 Thank this. -
I'll speak from experience...you will spend more time chasing phantom loads and dealing with a bunch of unorganized college students who work in dispatch...they literally don't know what the left hand is doing from the right...you as the driver will suffer for it..they're real good at having you unload at 8am then sitting till 4 or 5 pm then telling you here's a 600mi run delivers 7 am next next morning...they don't care whether you've been awake all day... You're being forewarned about usx.SheepDog and The Challenger Thank this.

USX is a good company. Make sure you get on a dedicated account. That makes the money and the people you deal with better.
Check out the USX section on this website. It has a lot of info on the company. Wife and I have a thread on there. It has our experience from the beginning. It hasn't been roses but if you can get on a dedicated account then you don't deal with the college kids. Dedicated is a game changer. Avoid OTR, that's b**ch work.
If your tired send them a message thru the DriverTech stating that your tired and can't take a load till you get some rest. Then it's documented.
The easiest way to succeed at USX is teaming. We grossed last week $1,600. Averaging $1,500. -
USX and Werner are a lot like each other. They both have a lot of dedicated accounts with happy drivers and a lot of unhappy solo OTR drivers.
Did you check out what dedicated accounts Werner has available in your area? Did you check what USX accounts are available in your area? Did you ask the happy USX drivers if they were team, solo, or dedicated?
The account I work at for Werner is split between Werner and USX, the drivers know each other, and the companies are similar enough I don't know of any of the drivers on this account that have bothered to switch companies either direction.TruckDuo Thanks this. -
I will agree some here... If you run team, reefer or get on a dedicated account, you can do okay and not have too much bs but, if you go solo, not the same story. Drivertech77 is spot on, for solo. Don't get me wrong, as a team you will chase phantom loads, look for trailers that aren't their and wait for trailers that never arrive. My wife and I were put on a load out of CA, wally world, and because there was no trailer, they took us off the load, than put us back on another one,,same shipper. Still no trailer. Sat for two days, a team, because they din't have any reefer trailers in the area...does that sound like a "good" company to you? Don't take that advice from a driver that doesn't have more than a couple years out here, that driver hasn't the experience to make an informed decision about weather a company is good or bad. Should just tell his story and that will be enough.drvrtech77 Thanks this.

Sheepdog, you worked at USX years ago. I'm stating my recent experience, it's up to the OP to decide if they want to take anybodys advice.
In our short time at US Xpress, we've done OTR dry van, Reefer & dedicated. OTR dry van sucked. Reefer was good. Easy to get 5,000+ miles a week with a day or two off at the Colton, CA terminal. End of summer they announced they were scaling back on reefer. We now do Ceva dedicated. Best thing ever. Rare to deadhead. We pull Ceva trailers so we never search for an empty. Ceva maintains their trailers well. We easily do 6,000+ a week mainly going from hub to hub.
I think the key to success at any company is managing your career. Most drivers join a company and never ask questions. These companies don't advertise how drivers can make top money. Their only concerned with covering every load they have.
Michelle, take a look around this website, how often do you read people bashing US Xpress. You've spoken with drivers in person and you know what they told you. USX is not perfect but it is probably the better of the starter companies.
Michelle, you can make money & yes it is a good company but remember you won't make money if you don't take control of your career.
Telling my story IS sharing my experience and opinion.

raerunner and Captain Call Thank this. -
In my opinion, which is based on my experience, SNI would be a better company to start at.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
I looked into Schneider, if you do go with them then I highly recommended their Tanker division.SheepDog Thanks this. -
Our experience with USX was pretty excellent. They are a mega carrier so some people struggle with the strict rules. The key is in building relationships. This includes your fleet manager, their boss the fleet owner and working hard to treat everyone else on staff in a positive manner.TruckDuo and The Challenger Thank this.
