I can't behave and been around since 2006. Similar to trucking company management. they ( mods /admins ) come and go and just stick around and laugh. this is a good site, has it's moments of WTF.

It could stem from the old saying "You or he HAS A MOUTH LIKE A TRUCK DRIVER" old saying that has been around for a long time.
Which probably came about in the early days when the early car drivers cut off the big trucks.
As much as i read on here about the "Old time drivers" being curtious and clean going to work in their button up shirts and bow ties which i am sure was true for some era, I would think it more likely they were the some of the scroungiest, toughest people and ready for anything and hygiene back then was probably not good considering a country stream was where they probably cleaned up at, i figure truck stops didn't come about till probably route 66 came about.
Not to mention other factors i assumed made them tough including things like the "Yankee drivers" having to drive South and so on.
    Truck drivers probably invented swearing.

I started in the era of the spring ride trucks with Armstrong steering. I had just quit the police dept. used to power lift, and used to love to fight. Got into a truck, and at the end of the week, had never felt so beaten in my life. That truck, those roads kicked my @&&. I was tired and everything hurt. A 500 mile day just about put me into a coma. Like everything else though, 'if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger.' You'd develop that toughness, guess it's an unbelievably high tolerance for pain and stamina of legend. Most of the old hands were extremely polite, especially to women and children. Those old hands would knock your teeth down your neck for using foul language around women. And God help the man that slapped a woman around. That fellow would receive a Hebrew slave beating...so hardcore, it was biblical! You didn't cuss on the CB, because there might be a woman with her ears on. These were the rules of the road.

This stuff you're referring to, wasn't the way when I started, this stuff started in the 90s. First there was power steering, then air ride, then then thing that attracted the scum and the slackers to the industry...the condo sleeper! You can now stay in your truck for weeks on end, eat garbage at the Loves and the Peelots, get really fat, don't bathe, and hide in your sleeper and talk crap on your CB.

Triple Six, could not have said it any better myself. I was a kid growing up with a father that was one of the men you speak of. If he were here today, in one of those peelots and heard or saw what we do today, he would be in a fist fight on a regular basis. I have what he had and I sometimes can NOT keep my mouth shut. I for the life of me can not understand why guys get so foul mouthed when a woman gets on the mic. It drives me crazy. There are still drivers out there that will put their money where their mouth is and offer to meat someone in the parking lot. I was out west one year, during the winter with snow all over the lot. In a TA somewhere, anyway this guy told it like it was and we became friends for a day. More than one person challenged him and he got out of the truck each and every time, no takers, just tough behind the mic is all. Another guy time before that, stood outside his truck and dared anyone to come over and woop his behind,,,again, no takers. The majority of drivers these days, are just talkers, liars and cowards. Not everyone though....
