A week to decide Boyd or TMC?

Maverick has weekends at home. I've read there's a waiting list for their glass division, but regular flatbed should be able to get on quickly.

TMC & Maverick have good reputations for good paychecks.

NTB Inc. is a reefer outfit that sometimes hires new CDL grads. They have a drop lot in Columbus and a terminal in Tipp City, OH.

Personally, would go with flatbed as first choice.

 

My bf drives for Boyd. He just finished his first week solo after his training period. He says he's very happy so far with the choice he made going with them. They have been really good to us and he's been home every weekend. His first trainers truck had a major breakdown and Boyd sent him home with pay until they got him another one. His pay has been consistent ($500 a week during training & orientation). He ran hard all last week so we'll see how good his first real check will be lol. BTW his truck is a 2012 International Prostar Plus if that helps your decision any.

He says he would highly recommend Boyd to anyone wanting to run a flatbed. He did tell me that out of 13 he started orientation with only 5 are still with Boyd. 5 didn't make it through orientation and the others either quit or got fired during their training.

driver..you have good options here..stick with Maverick,Boyd or TMC..they are all good..i think TMC runs their trucks slower but not sure..

Is there anyway you could ask your husband to be more specific on why the 5 didn't make it through orientation and why the others got fired or quit.

I hear this often and would really like to know how all these people can start out and only a handful finish with a lot of companies.

But seriously lol, TMC has a great freight base in the Ohio area. I worked for them for a year and a half. As an X trainer I can tell you they have one of the best training programs. Boyd and Maverick driver routinely ask TMC drivers how to secure loads since they know we know how to do it right. As for pay, although no one believes me, I made 64k my first year. With TMC's pay scale you have the potential to make as much as someone that's been their 20 years. If you choose % pay (you should) you will make around .48/mile and they will keep you busy. Pay is 100% performance based. You get paid for what you do.

TMC will get you home 48 out of 52 week-ends. In most cases they will get you home 52/52, but garentee 48. In ohio your right in the middle of tons of freight so you will have no trouble getting home. What city are you near?

TMC is also becoming employee owned with free stock options coming out. Details have not yet been published, but my old trainee told me he got a qualcom msg about it. They are also getting all new trucks with in 12 months. The new trucks all have 9 speed trans, 20 inch tv, bunk heaters, built in inverters (ac power, outlets). They also have a rider policy if you want to take your wife or kid with you after 6 months.

Only bad thing about TMC is their current fleet is kind of old. mostly small o6 trucks. You can still stand up in them though. also they ar limited to 62 mph. You can still make great money at 62 mph though.

If you dont mind the extra work of flatbed, you can make a lot more at TMC. If you have any questions about TMC just msg me. I drive for them for 1.5 years before buying my own truck and was a trainer for them.


US express is a joke. training sucks. They are a bottom feeder that doesn't care about you.

 

Usually it is failed drug test, lie on app about background or ergonomics testing. If you can't pass the lifting part of the physical or proper climbing on trailer you can get sent home.

 

Can You explain the required lifting and climbing process. I am 60 and would like to know what all to expect.

At TMC, the first day you will meet with a physical therapist. he will show you the proper way to lift a tarp, climb a ladder, get on and of the trailer and lift the tarp over a coil. It is hard, but int he real world you never need to lift the lumber tarps because the fork lift will do it for you. The tarp weighs like 90 pounds, but if you do it the way the guy shows you its not horrible. It is hard the first time, but i weighed 140 and lifted the tarp. Just do it the exact way the guy does it and pay attention and you will be fine.

They are cracking down on sleep disorders and blood pressure. If you bmi is to high they will require sleep apnea testing. This is wear many fail.
