My ABS light comes on, when I'm driving in the snow. When I get to warmer temperature it goes off. I had the wheel bearings cleaned out,that was a couple of years ago. This winter it has come on twice, but it goes off when I get warmer temps. Do you think I should change sensors? I don't know which one is bad, the light is off at this moment. Also how many sensors are on 06 9400? Thanks

On a car -each brake has a sensor --i will take a guess that you need a scanner to tell you which one -unless you truck is smart enough to tell you via a dash code. It could be in the ABS system itself ? but most likely a sensor.

first off, what year and model truck? Is it the truck abs or the trailer abs.? In some cases the abs doesn't know its broken until it tries to activate.

You'd probably be better off using a diagnostic scanner to narrow down where the problem is. Could range from a sensor too far away from the tone ring on the hub to a bad connection to a faulty ABS controller or valve. Check for frayed wires and correct sensor spacing first, beyond that it can be a real pain.

Like eeb said, you really should be having someone connect to the truck to see what code has been getting logged. With snow usually comes salty slush that gets thrown all over the chassis. There are lots of connectors that are prone to some water intrusion. Add a little road salt and corrosion can quickly set in. No offense, but blindly changing sensors is just wasting your money. The problem could be anywhere. If you want it fixed, it should be fixed right, and by a professional.

The ABS module will store the codes as inactive when the light goes out. It will keep track when it happened and how many times for a good history report.

It depends on the fault that the system is detecting. If it detects a sensor failure, that half of the system is disabled. Or if it detects a traction control failure, than traction control is disabled. No matter what the failure is, you still have normal conventional brakes.
