What causes the gasket between the turbo and manifold to blow out? Two trucks where I work have rolled back in like this, an N-14 celect+ and a 6nz. Both had one broken stud and the gasket burned away. The cat had the turbo replaced 11mo ago and it was torqued correctly and everything. I can't speak for the n-14. Any ideas?

Could be lots of things. Excessive back pressure, plugged muffler, excessive heat, old studs breaking, uneven/warped clamping surfaces, substandard gaskets.
-
Did you use new OEM turbo bolts and nuts ? Never reuse old bolts or average bolt bin bolts.

They were oem. I leaned that the driver in this last truck liked to lug it. I'm going to assume that the heat got to it.
puncher Thanks this. -

Many times the manifold mounting flange will warp. The very best way is to have it put on a emery bench and flattened. I have taken a disc grinder and using a flat file as a guage grind it flat.
Just a thought! -
I will definitely do that next time I change out a gasket or turbo. I never thought about it warping for some reason. Thanks for the input guys!
