1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hello, I have questions reguarding local work. My first question is will some companies train you for your CDL if you hold your permit? My second question is does Averitt have a Terminal in Orlando? I live in Melbourne and see their trucks and Southeastern's as well. What are your thoughts?

I know I mentioned in other threads I was going with Swift but I want to attend college and attain my 2yr degree. I know it sounds strange but my financial situation dictates this move.

yeah, some companies will train you, depends on how bad off they are for drivers. you will just have to call and ask. freight companies like to start you on the dock then train you as a driver. so, some will some won't, some do some don't.
part of being a truck driver is independant thought in the field. get in your car and go ask them in person, shows gumption!:biggrin_2551:

From talking to a Con Way driver a while back, he didn't work a set schedule. He worked when called, days, evenings, whatever. He would get a 10 break, then have tio be available. He said it would take him about 4 more years (he had been on 1, already) to get enough seniority to get a set schedule. Again, this was just one driver telling me this.

However, if it's true, and if you're wanting to go to school, this might not work for you. Also, most OTR companies don't look at local work as experience.
