Yes, you heard that right....that is the route I'm taking. I just got all the info for my school and what I need to bring to orientation today. I will be starting school right after the new year. Hope that by the time I finish and get through orientation and being out with my finisher freight will pick up a bit so I can make some money! Ends up that my CDL will be just about free, Con-Way picks up half of the cost of the school and the state picks up the rest on a WIA grant.

to user303 I served with HM-15 out of Alameda before they moved to Corpus Christi. Also USS Tripoli. Welcome all vets. We will be looking for you guys when you come on board Conway Truckload. Just remember Hawk211 when you come on and I will try to assist as well as other drivers out there.

hawk211 - You served on USS Tripoli? As in LPH 10? (Only Tripoli I'm aware of) - When? I was on her in 75-76 - maybe before your time?
As far as Conway Truckload goes... When I was deciding which trucking company to go to when I return from Iraq, Conway Truckload was in the top 3. Also in the mix was Knight Transportation and Prime Inc. Conway was in the lead until I started reading that most drivers only average about 2200-2500 miles per week. That is what I expect as a rookie for the first month... possibly 2 months. Once I can show I pick up and deliver on time every time, follow all the regulations and company policies, I expect to move up to an average of 2600 miles a week no more than 3 months after all training is completed. After 6 months, I expect an average of 2800 miles a week. The information I gathered from the Prime threads lead me to believe I can average better miles and better starting out pay (.37 - .42) (JFYI)

Hey mouse-KBR, yes LPH during the early 90's. Just remember that is average but most have done in the range of 2700 to 3000 it also depends alot on where you are running and time of year as it is the same for all companies. They also have gadgets in the truck for your safety as now-a-days helps tremendously with the motoring public and their driving habits. All companies mentioned are good companies but be aware that prime although they do have company it is mostly owner operator outfit and as for knight I know of a driver that is happy and loves working for Knight. But it just depends on you and what is best for you. I for one am very happy and would not change it as its become a long term deal for me. Oh, remember prime is a refrigerated company and Conway as well as Knight are both dry van, Knight does have a refrigerated section as well.
Best of luck to you and hope all goes well in your endeavors. Keep me posted as to which you do go with and if any concerns in driving give me a shout as I will try and help as much as I can. GO NAVY!!
