I'm a student graduating sometime next month. I'm just starting to research to find a good job that hires recent grads! I was already disqualified from 2 companies. one was TMC they didn't tell me why they just said they are going with other applicants. So today i talked to a recruiter for Maverick. I try to answer all question honestly. So he is asking about my driving record and its not to bad in the last 3 years only 1 ticket. But then he asked about DWI's well I had a couple when i was 21 years old and i'm now 38. He told me he couldn't work with that because its a student hire he said call him after i have 6 months otr. So i guess what im asking is do i have to tell anyone about my DWI 17 years ago from a State I don't live in anymore. Will they find out if i answer no? Or maybe you could tell me of other good companies that are more lenient for student driver with a past.

Generally companies want to know your driving record anywhere from the last 3-7 years....
I guess the biggest question is, are you clean and sober now and is this really the job for you if your not? Not trying to be mean but obviously with any job ( especially this one), it will never work.
Give them only the information they request....if they ask you for the past 5 years of history, give them that.
Most applications ask " have you EVER been convicted of a DUI". -
That was 17 years ago and i was young and made a a mistake. Yes i'm clean and sober now.

Good for you....I wouldn't even mention it...

I wonder how far back their background and mvr checks actually go
Chinatown Thanks this. -
MVR is for the life of you license in the state you give them. If you tell them the state of your DUIs, they will find out. But there is no need for that information if you dont need to give it to them.
Best thing you can do is pay a little money online and order your own DL records and background checks and see what your up against.
Did the school your in not pull these already?Johnnyspeed1975 Thanks this. -
I got caught back in 89 and from what I seen some companies will ask if you have had one in the last 5 years to 10 years and some will not take you if more than 1. I asked the lady at the DMV several years ago and she said it could not be tracked down by a company. But that was several years ago and this is now so it may be different now. If they do not ask for a dui conviction over a certain amount of time don't volunteer the info.
Mniesen89 and Johnnyspeed1975 Thank this. -
Well the school had me answer them questions on paper but before i wrote it down i asked. He told me not to write it down because it was so old not to worry.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
And hes probably right...I wouldnt even sweat it....

As far as I know, them old DUI's will show up, at least they do in my state. Someone will take you on, probably not any of them bigger players. (IMO, you don't really don't wanna go that route anyway).
Chinatown and Johnnyspeed1975 Thank this.
