You are allowed 11 hours drive time per qualifying 10-hour break -- NOT 11 hours per day.

Using the 8/2 split allows you to drive up to 14 hours in a day: drive 8, stop 2, drive 3, stop 8, drive 8, stop 2, drive 3, stop 8......

You can drive up to 13.5hours per day using the normal 10 hour break + separate 30 min break.

There does seem to be a lot of free time appearing each day with all the new rules.

    Thanks, I appreciate the answer.

In regards to your post, it seems like that varied schedule would be hard on your body. If you drove 10 hours per day for 7 days and took a day off, wouldn't that be easier. It doesn't seem like you'd be loosing that much time. I don't have the real world exp yet, so I'm sure there is more to it.

Your way would definitely be a more leisurely pace, but you are trading off productivity. In 4 weeks, you would work 250 hours on your schedule vs 280 on mine. At a 60mph average speed and 40cpm, that's $732 less every 4 weeks. At 50 working weeks/year, you're losing the capacity to earn an extra $9,150. Only you can decide if it is worth it...
