i WANTED TO USE ANOTHER COMPANIES AUTHORITY AND START A SMALL FLEET. i WAS THINKING DRYVAN AND REEFER BUT MORE TOWARDS DRYVAN BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA FUEL COST FOR THE REEFER. IF I CAN FIND A COMPANY THAT OFFERS A GREAT FUEL SURCHARGE MAYBE BUT MOST WILL DO A SURCHARGE FOR THE TRACTOR AND NOT THE REEFER. I ALSO WANT TO USE THE COMPANIES TRAILER TEMPORARILY TO SAVE FOR MY OWN.

We are currently looking into ARL for the same reasons you list.. although my hubby has been an OTR driver for close to 30 years, we do not have a trailer that is road ready right now and we were approached by an ARL associate and it seems very promising. No need to own a trailer, fuel surcharge, plate and insurance program etc.. are all in place. I have seen the weekly settlements from 5 of the drivers in the region for a whole month and I think since our truck is paid for we should run with them. You might want to check them out, they are based out of PA but have satellite offices all over. Just a thought.. good luck to you!

Oh.. and another thought.. I don't know where you like to run but a friend on mine is dispatching for Artur and they called us, as well... however, they don't have any lanes in our area but their lanes may be in yours. They haul mostly dry freight and you would use their trailers, they own a metric crap load of them so maybe drop and hook? If you are interested I can give you the contact info for the driver recruiter and the info they sent to me. Just PM me.

You left it wide open VAN or Reefer , I know you said leaning more towards dry van but you got to give a few more specifics for someone to give you ideas , or your gonna get things all over the spectrum in both areas . :)

You can rent a van for about $400/month. Most carriers pull vans. I would check some of the truck stops and pick up copies of any of the trucking magazines. With you living in Massachusetts, your options may be a little more limited. Not all carriers go into New England. I would check with Schneider, Landstar and Swift. All should have a presence in New England. You may also find a regional carrier who recruits owner operators in your area. Go to the company listings on this and some of the other trucking forums and check to see the recruiting and operating area of various trucking companies. Personally, I would favor a carrier that paid percentage. Universal Am Can, J B Hunt and a few others do go into New England. J B Hunt has a program for those who have their own authority and want to pull their trailers around. There isn't much difference between leasing or pulling J B Hunt trailers around.
