If you have a friend that has been driving for 17yrs and he uses brokers, don't you trust him to tell you where the best lanes are for your operation? We would definitely need to know what type of operation you have.

SOME people actually DO succeed the HARD WAY. There are lots that FAIL and FEW THAT SUCCEED. I have a similar situation. I started running under my authority and I'm doing it. He is not asking for anyone's customer base. Just asking the lanes. I am starting to Run my flatbed long haul and I'm also trying to figure out which lanes are best!

IT CAN BE DIFFICULT to find loads going to the east coast from sacramento, CA, but when I do see a load its going to south FL, and EVERYONE KNOWS its hard to get something back out. Last week I went to MASSACHUSETTS AND BACK averaging 1.85/mi. I'm just getting started also and LEARNING.

Which cities have good flatbed freight coming back to CA?

I know it's hard to come out of FL and the NE. Ohio and IL have flatbed loads coming towards CA, BUT I AM JUST A BEGINNER and hopefully can get a few pointers.

Hopefully, I can get some good hints and advice on where good load are coming out of. I studying DAT LOADBOARD feature OF hot states

good luck everyone!! I REFUSE to PARTICIPATE IN Hauling CHEAP FREIGHT.

Rich, if you are only averaging 1.85 you should consider leading to a carrier. I'm doing better than that without the extra cost you are incurring.

    Thanks for the reply.
$ 1.85 was only on my first two loads and they were 3000 miles each. 1.85 was including all the deadhead. This is why I'm on this website to increase my knowledge and find better paying freight. I was leased on for a couple years and I hated it, I was only averaging 1.55.

    thanks

My break-even point is $1.67 and that includes $35,000 for the driver. So, taking $1.85 isn't a "bad" thing, but of course, we do want to raise our average...
