My wife has rode along in my last 2 jobs , she likes being where I am . She always finds things to do , navigator , she always did her best to help find the shippers & consignee's ! We both do ammeter photography , so we were always taking photo's . Only part she hated was restrooms , never felt safe in them . Good luck .
Anyone have wife as a rider only ?

I do it all the time. My wife loves to go along for the ride whenever she has nothing else going on at home. Why wouldn't she? Time spent together doing anything is time well spent and is why I still Love her after 28 years of marriage.

Flightline, if you get cramped in the rolling condominium, you should try a '79 K100 cabover double bunk with the better half and 13 year old daughter. Bethlehem, PA with a drop in Denver, then on to the L.A. basin, a few days with friends and back eastbound picking and dropping partials as we went. We all did just fine, three weeks total away from home, stayed in motels only 3 of the nights out.
Came back through Ontario and Barstow, CA; then Phoenix, on to Center Colorado then to Denver, on over near Cleveland, east to Philipsburg PA with a final near Scranton, PA.
Good times...we got used to the 'cabover shuffle' every night and in the morning...all the stuff that we had to take from the bunk and put onto the doghouse, and then back again.
Oh, and we stopped for a picnic dinner in Utah and I had to rescue a baby bird that had fallen out of its nest. The 13 yr old wouldn't let us leave until the rescue was complete...here I am with a new pair of gloves on so I don't put my scent on the bird, climbing up 20' into a tree, thinking what would happen if I fall outta this sucker...good times.
That was a trip none of us will ever forget.dennisroc, blairandgretchen, Ducks and 2 others Thank this. -
Before we had kids my wife would ride with me when ever her work/study schedule allowed.
It was great and we have many memories.
It also went a long way to equip her to better understand the industry.
It did however take a bit of shuffling of positions on the totem pole.
You see with me being away from home so much she basically ran things around the home.
When I was home I would basically fit in and accepted how and when things took place , where things were kept etc as she did a good job.
The first time she traveled along with me I thought , "what have I done" she wants to call the shots here as well.
We however got that setteled and it was some of the best times of my life.blairandgretchen and dennisroc Thank this. -
The hunny is allowed to ride along at all times. Its nice to have somebody with me on the road to help keep me awake. Its also nice to have a companion on the road. I refuse to travel with a dog but a girl is more than welcome. Long as they understand the left AND right doors need to stay shut most of the time. Shower when were empty, and I sleep when I get to the sale barn and there's a line. Its kinda rough at times but I'm not the only cow hauler that does it. It makes the miles go by faster makes the week go by faster as well.

Dennisroc, if you haven't settled on a company yet, you should check out TMC Transportation from Des Moines, IA. I used to work for them. They had a number of guys whose wives rode along. Also, they do take new guys on as well. Just a thought for you.

lol yeah that goes for us doorslamming dock bumpers too. That was the hardest part for my wife in the beginning was running on MY schedule. I gotta say she hangs in there well without complaint and if I'm up she's up.... and it went a long way towards her understanding of the gig and what it's like and what goes into providing that good lifestyle so she doesn't have to work.
She's a special kind of woman that's for sure. It takes one. Some of us get lucky I guess.KW Cajun, 379exhd, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this. -
yeah, let her ride. that would be better than watching nekkid women on the internet
dennisroc and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I know a couple,(owner op) where the guy drives, and his wife, runs their business from the passenger seat.
Been doing this for years, and it works for them.
She even got a college degree in business, while riding with her husband.blairandgretchen, pattyj and dennisroc Thank this. -
You all must have absolutely amazing women - no sarcasm meant at all.
For me, thinking of my past female friends, having a woman ride along would be my worst nightmare. Most women talk about 50 times more than a man. For me to show a woman the respect I think she deserves, I need to be away from her at least 2/3 of the time.
I'm very surprised to hear this many truckers have such good relationships. Good for you guys - I guess I'm better suited to remaining single.flyingmusician, dennisroc and blairandgretchen Thank this.
