I'm pretty sure you would have drove absolutely no different than me, under the same scenario & circumstances.
In fact, I'm very sure.
No hillcrest/overpass "requires" you to slow less than 20 mph. Slowing to whatever speed prior to a blind hill, depending on various road/traffic conditions, is controlled by the driver's judgement. As for an example... take ANY steep blind hillcrest or overpass on the highway.
I don't recall saying that anyone else's speed dictated my speed. I simply described the scenario. You're reading too much into it, and wrongly also.
I was preparing to slow to about 40 mph prior to the hillcrest. That would have been an overly safe act, considering prior road/traffic conditions.
Unfortunately, even 40 mph would not prevent ability to stop on a sudden sheet of ice.
A sheet of ICE on the other side would have been unforeseen by me, YOU, and every other driver out there.
No way you could convince me otherwise, and like I said, I'd bet you would be in synchrony with my driving/actions, if you were 300' ahead or behind me.
Very true, and undisputable. But I think some situations/scenarios do exist, where all of the "not outdriving my sightlines" in the world, won't prevent every single incident.
Can you guarantee you also won't ever strike a deer? You can't slow down to 20 mph at every close treeline.
Quick advice for new/all drivers.

i don't ever have my cb on and have never had a need to have it on. if you are following a safe distance and driving according to weather conditions and are aware of your surroundings you will be fine
-
The 11 yrs ive been driving only had a cb the first 2 months..Alot of idiots out there and ppl should know not to follow too closely especially during bad conditions and shouldn't have to be told.Someone follows me too closely,I slow way down and he gets the message and passes me.

Well then pattyj, should i drive again, how the h... am i supposed to "Shout at ya" and say "hello" as we cross paths ? Hand signals in the day flares by night -LOL

You can 'see', but can you STOP? Another issue with that reasonable-sounding technique is losing sight of those lights due to that driver increasing velocity (or you dropping 0.25 mph), who may be relying on the same technique. To continue using it you then have to increase velocity; to what degree will be necessary, you don't know. For all practical purposes they may as well have vanished, and may reappear at any instant, having dropped 5 mph, or all their mph.
Following that closely is essentially letting another driver drive your truck, because you have to react to their every change of velocity, immediately. But you're not just depending on that driver, but every driver to your front in a following-too-closely platoon. Any one of them messes up, it can get ugly for every rig behind them. Happens every winter. Fortunately, cops tend to be 2 sacks o' hammers stupid regarding every aspect of motor vehicle operation and widely believe fog or an icy road or "conditions" can cause a crash, even though somehow everyone subject to the identical conditions never do. Why the preceding vehicles didn't crash, and traffic stops crashing into the pile are mysterious and unexplainable phenomenons to them.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Then why has no sheet of ice ever caused every driver subject to that sheet of ice to crash...?blairandgretchen Thanks this.

I do the same.
I think we should do another REAL "Convoy" across America!
That would be fan.. (I am just saying... ha ha )
By the way I loved that movie!!blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Well, when I do this kinda following, for sure I am with my eyes on my speedometer; if the comrade driver ahead speeds up, then I just let him go. In an snow icy situation, my main focus is ahead of me, keep a safe distance and slow down to the safest speed you can stop the truck before crashing on someone or something. I don't care about who is behind, specially four wheelers trying to go faster than the truckers, and so if they want to follow the path or stay on the travel track, so let the line get big and bigger!! Now, if a fellow trucker speed ahead of you, just give him as much space as possible, because you will need that space to stop your truck before hitting him, why? HE WILL JACK KNIFE very soon!!blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Flares will work, lol.I can see it now, hang man sends out flares and then yells and wavesHI PATTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![QUOTE="Hang - Man";3737281]Well then pattyj, should i drive again, how the h... am i supposed to "Shout at ya" and say "hello" as we cross paths ? "Hang - Man" and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I'm not in the habit of answering questions to someone who never answers mine... repeatedly.
There are several "variables" you apparently can't imagine or see. No need for me to explain all of them.
It's obvious you just want to continue a pissing-match, just to dig trying to find some fault in my driving scenario.
No need to continue, as my points have fallen on deaf ears, and your tendency to generalize a very individual/specific scenario & hazard.wore out, technoroom and blairandgretchen Thank this.
