ok I bit the bullet and put an app in with prime I will see what happens

I am looking forward to starting with Prime in January! I did a lot of research on companies as well. I am thoroughly prepared to be away from home, but both my kids are grown and moved away, so no biggy. Prime allows a pet. Also, I already have a CPAP machine so they won't have to send me to a sleep study. I have money saved up to get started with, so I won't need advances. All is good! I will look for some of you guys in Springfield.

 

The main thing with not wanting you to send the money home, is that Prime doesn't want you to get to the point where you're trying to get more money from them to cover what you need while a student on a truck.

 

Not to mention the fact that $200 doesn't really go very far considering the inflated prices charged by truck stops. If you start sending money home, you'll be surviving on cheese 'n peanut butter crackers pretty quick.

 

I lived on $100 a week it just takes restraint and be sure to ask your trainer if he has a fridge, etc, some do and some don't. I loaded up on those $2 a box fruit bars at Walmart the only problem was my first trainer didn't like to stop at Walmart so I was stuck buying $2 bottles of water at the truck stops which turned into Pop which turned into an extra 5 LBS around the mid section, LOL.

Oh and get a multi vitamin before you start out just in case you do end up eating those $1.50 hot dogs and drinking those $1.89 V8 as a meal.

 

Does Prime have no touch freight or does the driver load/unload? I applied for them after speaking to a recruiter today and didn't even think to ask, I just figured most freight is no touch for the driver across most trucking companies?

 

We generally hire lumpers to unload the trailers, or the receivers do it themselves. Of course, if you want to schlep some freight you can.

 

Fortunately I am an instructor that likes food, My students go shopping before we ever leave and I cook alot in the truck, they can eat with me or not, No student right now but I am having a pork roast in the crockpot for dinner, with mashed potatoes and green beans.
