Legally Driving An OTR Truck Into Mexico??

I'm in Mexico every week with my loaded truck.......wait, that was Los Angeles, my bad

 

Hmmm maybe things have changed? I was under the impression that you could drive your truck into Mexico but you play hell getting it back out.. almost to the point that you couldn't get the truck back out. It goes into an impound lot and sits.

 

The agreement with Canada is more like the ideal but US truckers still have to comply with Canadian laws which are stricter than the US. Mexico's government is just a mess so it's a waste of time to even discuss it. BUT the NAFTA agreement did allow US companies to purchase and utilize Mexican trucking companies to deliver their freight cheaply. I spoke to one Mexican driver and he said he's paid 12¢ pm and is loving it. One Mexican truck comp was cited 98 times by the border patrol but is still hauling.

my brother in law retired from the teamsters and keeps his boat at san carlos. he comes back for 6 months during hurricane season.
he said he was attracting too much attention with the safari motorhome so now he drives a 94 dodge diesel 4x4 from washington all the way down the baja every year.
he said he crosses the arizona border at 6am on sunday and drives as far as he can. lot of u.s. and canadian citizens down there loving life

 

Not trying to hijack the thread, but...


I think you'll find the HOS rules in Canada are less strict as we can drive longer and our rest periods have much greater flexibility including better split-sleeper options and the ability to defer off-duty time, among other things.

we would not last long in canada if we went up there and tailgated your women and children like these immigrant canadians are doing 24/7 here.
i have complained to the scale man about it a couple times.

most ive seen arent actin like that. i mean trying to intimidate people out of the center lane so you can make another 20 cents.
i used to get pulled into bc scales just for the heck of it. got to remind me its a sovereign country little man disorder.
never got a ticket thougjh
