I looked up Cascadia and Prostars and both of their sites say the equipped mattress is 80 inches long. The accompanying photos are definitely of a lightweight truck interior. Casciadia also says their trucks are equipped with a small refrigerator. If I am lucky enough to get one of those, it will save me a lot of money. Has anyone gotten a truck that already had a minifrig installed? Of course right now my main question is the mattress size. Thanks all! :biggrin_25519:

That refrigerator is a driver-supplied option at Prime. Your option to provide the cash to get it. There will be things that are more critical to your success as a driver that come up than sheets, mattress topper, refrigerator. You may want to save your money for a bit, and then prioritize your purchases as you become a bit more familiar with the requirements of an OTR truck driver. It's a little different than the kind of life you're accustomed to.

No doubt. But I understand that sleep is vital to the success of an OTR driver. Likewise, I don't intend to spend my whole pay check eating out. Perhaps you can share a few of those things more critical to my success so I will have an idea where to better allocate my funds.

at Prime you are gonna spend at least $500 for a fridge including install on a condo truck. No you will not get lucky and have one already installed. Prime is pretty good at uninstalling any fridges left behind on trucks by the owners. They resell those fridges as used.

Only luck you might have is the discount of buying a used fridge from Prime. First come, first serve. They don't operate a waiting list for used fridges. Sometimes its weeks before they get a used fridge. Got to be there at the right time. If not your option is to buy the fridge new.

On LW tractors the detail shop will remove the passenger seat and install brackets for securing things. You can buy any kind of mini fridge from any store and secure it yourself to the brackets where the passenger seat is. Bungees, rope, straps etc.

They will not remove the seat from the condo trucks, so your only installed fridge is a "truck fridge" installed by Prime... or some electric type igloo cooler that plugs in.

That would be great! Walmart has a nice little 1.7 for $80 - real newbee question - do I need it to plug into lighter, a 1000 watt converter that I buy, or wire it in? or some other plug available? Thanks!

Normally trucks with APU's come with inverter's and a 1000 watt inverter has to be wired into the battery and they do all that. But chill with all the purchases you don't even have your cdl yet. You will have time for all that when the time comes. Lot's of people start school but not all finish. This is not as easy as it looks my friend. Focus on learning to be a good student and keeping that truck in between the lines. Backing safely, and learning trip planing techniques. I'll tell any student or rookie. Pack light because some of these companies will send you home packing after a small incident. Have a good night and a happy new year.

Thanks and happy new year to you, too! I am aware that many who start do not finish. When I went to take my permit test I was the only one out of 20 testers at that time to pass. But I intend to see this all the way through, complete every aspect of training with excellence, and embark on a new adventure. As for packing light, I have already weighed my luggage which comes in at well under the busline's weight limit. Thank you all for your helpful posts - I learned exactly what I needed to know.
