I wasn't sure where to post this in the forum but figured this would be be the best place. If you have a apple device (might be on droid) check out the app "trucker path". It's free to download but pay to use, $3.99 a month. It will show you most of all fuel stops, directions, weight stations and if their open or not, directions. I think it also shows where low clearance bridges are. Says it works with the 48 states. Just saw it in the App Store and figured you guys mig find it useful. Hope this helps.

there are other apps out there that do a lot of that stuff and they are free, also my RM atlas tells me where low clearance bridges are....yes I actually own an atlas and use it at times.

I have the RM TND-710 GPS. It shows me all of those things at the touch of a button. Its internal database is derived from the paper atlas. Good to know there's an app out there for the iphone users. I've never been an apple proponent, so I'll stick with my open source.

Trucker path is a good FREE truckstop finder. Everything is map based. Only annoying thing is it has pop ups trying to get you to actually pay for it

bigroad is a monthly fee. and designed for logs. all the included apps it has. you can download seperately. or use mydat. one app for all.

droidtruckerstop is handy for the big chains and weigh stations.

I can say I like using mydat sometimes, I also have the apps for each truck stop. With the loves and Pilot apps you can keep track of rewards and shower credits right on your phone. I like knowing where I have a shower available so I know where I want to stop for the night.

I use Trucker Path daily and it is free unless you want to use the trip planner portion of it. You will pay for that but I have found no need to pay for it. I alos leave feedback on the stops I make and you accumulate points for doing that but I'm not sure what they can be used for.

I recently installed the SmartTruck Route app on my phone. I drive local in northern New Jersey, and I have most of the area in my head, but now and then I get sent to some tiny suburb I've never been to that has a loading dock behind a supermarket or something, and I wanted to check with a truck routing app to see what it said. I tried SmartTruck - I used it twice, both times it routed me on roads that had 4 ton weight limits, when there were perfectly legal ways to go. It seems to be good at routing around low bridges though. Another thing I don't like about it is that you have to have your GPS on, and it routes you from your current location, or else it won't work. This is silly because you might not have a good GPS signal at the moment, or you might want to be looking up a route you'll be driving later (personally, I don't use GPS while driving, I figure out my route beforehand). Anyway, I reverted to just using the roads I know and looking up the local streets on a paper atlas. I used the big trucker's atlas and the CB when I ran long distance, but I haven't been able to find a local truck map - does anyone know where you can get them? I tried google searching and looking on the rand mcnally site, all they sell are the 50 state trucker atlases, they don't have anything smaller or more specific. I have local maps, but they don't indicate approved truck routes or bridge clearances. Like I said, I know my way around here, but it's a dense and complicated area and now and then I get sent to some address that I'm not familiar with, but not often enough to justify the expense of a truck gps device. I'm happy with a paper map or atlas. Some states will give you an official truck map, I highly recommend the one for New York City and I think the DOT will mail you one if you request it on their website. Nothing from NJ that I can find though..
