Are automatic trucks any good on steep grades or do they perform the same as a stick in low gear?

this is my OPINION but autos are crap for snow/ice. not sure on grades, but they like to hunt gears..

Maverick's trucks can be switched to manual for steep grades. Shifter is located on the steering wheel, and pulling or pressing it changes gears. Lots of guys drive it in manual all the time.
