    I took an at home sleep study about two weeks ago and the results say I do not have sleep apnea. Has anyone had an at home sleep study? I was wondering if you had a hard time getting certified using the at home study instead of the lab one? Do the doctors accept at home studies? I was also curious if anyone know what blood pressure reading gives you a one time 3 month cert? Thank you all in advance.

    My doctor recommended it as it was cheaper and also easier to get approved by my insurance. It was nice to be in the comfort of my own home.

    How'd you hook that thing up to the cat? He doesn't have sleep apnea but he sure purrs a lot! :)

    Sleep Apnea testing is not a FMCSA requirement yet. Though one that is diagnosed with it you have to prove you are compliant and doing okay through a licensed Respiratory Therapist. I think regardless of a negative or positive the lab still recommend in-lab testing which is more thorough with brain wave monitoring. Home testing only catches about 80% of the moderate to severe cases. It doesn't catch the mild cases. If what you are asking will a company accept it? I doubt it if they are one to do that type testing according to BMI. They'll want it done through their doctors.

    140/90 is the cutoff on BP. If you are running borderline or they have to give you a few chances they might give you a reduced card and tell you to see a doctor to get on the BP meds. Three months is plenty time to get treated and balanced out. If you suspect you are borderline then go ahead and get treated.

    Any idea what the cutoff point is for blood and type 2 diabetes?

    I believe an at-home sleep study , if administered properly, can satisfy your DOT doctor's physical requirement. My DOT doctor suspected that I had sleep apnea, and as a preliminary screening tool, my primary care doctor sent me to a sleep specialist who had me do an overnight pulse oximeter test. It measures the blood oxygen saturation level...

    The thing is that the pulse ox test was free... the results were also free. But the sleep apnea doctor, being a for-profit jerk, says "you absolutely need a sleep study with these pulse ox test results." I thought the results were fishy, so I went directly to the pulmonary equipment distributor who had my pulse ox test results. They said , "we're not trained to give medical advice but you have no signs of sleep apnea according to this test." Took my pulse ox tests to the DOT doctor who also said, looks good, we can rule out sleep apnea...

    The same BP 140/90. The blood glucose would have to be in check the time of testing. Just fast that morning. They don't check A1C. Type 1 is a different story.

    The thing with a negative test you have nothing to disclose so one doesn't have to say anything. The only issue here is a company that might make you take a sleep study whether they would accept those results. I wouldn't think so because just like a company physical they contract their own doctors and rely on their results.

    [h=4]Stage 1 Hypertension: Medically certified to drive for a one-year period[/h]Corresponds to a BP of 140 – 159 systolic and /or a BP of 90-99 diastolic.
    A driver with a blood pressure in this range is at low risk for hypertension-related acute incapacitation and may get their DOT medical card to drive for a one-year period. A DOT physical exam should be done annually thereafter and should be at or less than 140/90. If less than 160/100, certification may be extended one time for three months.
