Guess it's time to close the left door for the last time, 71 years old, making a delivery to a plastic plant, real tight spot on a good day, this time early morning, dark, rain and snow mix, no lighting on the right side, tree line and fence, got out to look and make sure i missed the fence, did not walk to the back of the trailer on the right side, started moving again,,,,, backed into a car,,,,,, felt worse for the owner of the car, (working nights at a plastic factory) am sure he didn't have the money to just go out and buy another car, than I flet for myself, no one hurt,,,, called the boss, he came down, looked at the situation, just kept asking if I was OK, never got upset or said anything about what I did. Had me take the Truck back to the yard after unload.
Of course I lost my job, my fault for not walking all the way around the Trailer,,,,,,,,,,, lesson learned,,,,,,, GOAL
Everyone, stay safe.

Darn Buddy,, so sorry to hear that. It happens to the best of us.
Don't brutalize yourself over it. We ALL make mistakes/oversights on occasion.
I can easily tell how bad you feel about it, and if I had a trucking company I would have no problem hiring you. -
That sucks so sorry. I really hope I am not driving when I'm 71.
-
Driver I've been in the same position except I just rubbed it with the front axle of my spread. It dings our pride way more than the equipment. You can get another job if you want one with your experience. He'll my grandfather drove till he was 74 and only gave it up because Mamaw got sick. I work with a guy now that's 75 and still running strong. 4000-4500 miles a week.

I work for a small fleet which consist of 3 drivers in their upper 60's and one who is 75.

Ya, know the world just do not stand behind drivers. You could have a million plus no accident, all on time, no problems of any kind. But have 1 towable accident and your out on your butt. They will not care what you've gone thru for the company or how you stood behind them when times were hard for the company.
Companies now days are just in it the themselves. Be honest and cover your own ### first. -
Buddy, sorry to hear that and I know it doesn't make you feel any better but anyone of us could have done that. 21,31,51,71, just numbers bud. Enjoy some time off and all the best for the future.
Unfortunately it's the insurance companies running the show these days and small biz owners have their hands tied. -
So sorry to hear such bad news. Had you been with the company for very long?
-
That sucks, I feel for ya. If you're still interested in working, maybe consider being an instructor at a quality truck driving school? My driving instructor was 73 and I feel blessed to have had him as my teacher.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Sorry, Buddy
Crap happens to everybody. Everyone makes mistakes. No one was hurt and that is what matters. Brush yourself off and give her a go again. I'm a little disappointed that your company let you go. I'm assuming that this was your only violation
