Whats the deal with the 'duck walk' that they (apparently) make you do at orientation? I'm probably just being stupid, but I'm a little scared that i'll be sent packing over something small or insignificant..

It's to see how well you'd be able to squat down and creep under a trailer to inspect a fifth wheel to see if the jaw is locked around the kingpin

To properly inspect a trailer you have to be able to get underneath it and move around. In a crowded trailer yard that's often the only way to reach the landing gear handle. It's a job requirement, and you have to be able to physical able to do it.

I agree, passport and hazmat basically a waste of money for flats. There are a few loads for Canada or hazmat but very very few. As for toughing it out in winter, typical rookie remark lol. I can put clothes on to stay warm in winter. Cant take enough off in summer.

Staying warm is the easy part about winter. Dee rings and winch tracks full of ice, straps frozen in a roll or around the winch, tarps that fold like cardboard, always dirty with bungees frozen to the rubrail, and playing around with snow/ice on the deck. It's a nice change from the summer heat but I wouldn't say it's better. ;)

About as frequently as your trainer, though your FM will try to get you home when you need to be, like for appointments and such.
