I will admit, I am a regulatory geek. I scan regulations and rules constantly because they fly under the radar, nobody pays attention even though they effect us just as often as laws. So now it seems that if you were convicted of MISDEMEANOR domestic violence at any point in your life you can not own/transport/posses any firearms, ammo, or anything related to parts and pieces of firearms. According to this http://resources.regulations.gov/public/custom/jsp/navigation/main.jsp **edit** Sorry, it won't let me copy/paste directly to the regulation. Go to "Dept. of Justice" then scroll down to #1140-AA04.Yes you read that right. If you slapped your wife 25 years ago and copped a misdemeanor plea to avoid a felony trial... You can not haul any of those things. If you are a Wal-Mart driver, or general freight hauler who gets a pallet of trigger springs headed to a gun manufacturer, sorry, tell your dispatcher you can't do it.
The beautiful thing about this is you had no say in it, your elected representative had no say in this, you can't complain to or vote out anyone for this.
You wanted this 'Merica... Deal with it!
New regulation will effect every company that transports anything firearms related.

Anyone that hits his wife has temper issues and doesn't need their hands on a weapon. They already demonstrated they lose their cool.
omg-downshift! Thanks this. -
I agree with condo.. people need to be protected by the government from themselves.. /rollseyes...
Every situation is different.... I had a cousin attacked by a girlfriend.. (both were cops) he didn't defend himself.. She broke his nose and 3 ribs and the county wouldn't charge her... I would have shot the ole #####... but he was the bigger man.. and guess who they tried to charge..rockyroad74 Thanks this. -
absolutes are horrible ways to govern..
Ducks, Guntoter and rockyroad74 Thank this. -
People always assume a guy with a DV charge is a wife beater. Most DV cases are very mild in comparison to the widely held stereotype.
Women can be viscous, they engage in more frequent physical attacks than men do, because they know it is socially acceptable for them to do so. Most men will attempt to mitigate the attack by pushing her away or restraining her. She gets pissed off more and calls a friend, her family, or cops. The guy tells cops the honest truth and gets arrested and charged, regardless. She gets charged with nothing, but has no power to drop any charges. DV charges are made by the state. This is to protect truly abused women who can be threatened into dropping charges.
I know a guy that was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct with the DV enhancement applied to that charge. What did he do? Went to pickup his son from her house on the weekend. She started arguing with him and he stayed on the public sidewalk, but was arguing back and forth with her. The neighbors called the cops, and he went to jail. It's BS in many cases, the cops know it but their hands are tied with what they are forced to do. Ask any cop this.
Just remember, your 2nd Amendment right is gone...for LIFE! As well as maybe your current job and many possible job opportunities are gone. Not everyone with a DV charge is the stereotypical wife beater. -
NO, its not just proposed. It is final rule and is scheduled for implementation 2/1/14
""The Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 contained amendments to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA). The Act amended the GCA to make it unlawful for any person convicted of a "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" to ship, transport, possess, or receive in or affecting commerce firearms or ammunition. It also amended the GCA to make it unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of a firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that the recipient has been convicted of such a misdemeanor. The Act also amended the GCA to provide for sales between Federal firearms licensees of curio and relic firearms away from their licensed premises."

BTW note to dispatchers and shippers out there. Did you see the part that says you can't give those things to someone who you know was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence.

You're talking about the Lautenberg Amendment, and that's been in effect since 1996.
I'm in a couple minds about it, personally. On the one hand, I think it's just another gun grabbing measure. On the other hand, it doesn't exactly bother me to see this put into action against someone prone to committing domestic abuse, and citing MRA propaganda isn't going to change that.
