Well, I'll be honest here and say that I have driving experience, but the amount of it spent as an OTR driver is a bit light. Finishing up my log, chow, laundry (when it needed to be done), and sleep was typically what I did. If there were some minor repairs which needed to be done to the truck, I'd try and get those done on my down time, as well.
Of course, you don't need to limit yourself to that. Concocting fishing stories and tall tales seems to be a common way to pass time. You won't believe how many drivers out here have been Green Recon Seals in the Marine Corps Rangers, and have been on special assignments to track the world's most notorious bad guys, yet those #### politicians just wouldn't give them authorization to pull the trigger! But, on the bright side for them, all the skills they learned from the Army's Super Secret Underwater Knitting School for Ninjas taught them the skills they needed to buy everything I've ever bought for only a fraction of what I spent.
Barring that, a laptop and some Blu-Rays or DVDs for those 34 hour resets isn't a bad idea.

I have my own portable wifi. I prefer to drive no more then 8 and 1/2 hours a day and that way I never have to worry about the 34 hour reset. I start looking for a truck stop as soon as my eighth hour approaches so I can get one of the better spots. Then, I am online and taking classes. This is the start of my third year in law school. I also have the Rosetta Stone classes. I am finished with German, Spanish and I am now on Chinese. After I finish up with the computer it is off to the shower. Then head back to the bunk for my 8. I have trouble sleeping in the sleeper. I sometimes lie awake worrying that I won't get to sleep. Of course the occasional Lot lizard bangs on your cab to wake you up. Never been lonely enough to open the door. For some reason, I always call me wife right after that happens.

Well, If you care anything about your health or appearance take your downtime to walk, jog, stretch, or work out. Some of the truck stops that I've been to have small gyms. I've been pretty much through all 50's and you,ll be able to find something active to do even in the winter months, weather permit... A lot of truckers would much rather spend their down time with "the women of the lot" or "lizard lots" but I would recommend that you avoid this.

I fire up a doobie and wash down some painkillers with a 12 pack while surfing porn and peeing in bottles. Isn't that what everyone does? LOL.

    Kidding!!

Same as everyone else. Food (mostly I fix my own. Flying J/ Pilot and Love's and their fast food associates don't need my help to make a profit - my fuel and coffee should do well enough), shower, electronic paperwork, some housekeeping (take out the trash, sweep the floor, a little wipe down) and contact with Family. Skype if we can or cell if the WiFi is acting slow. Maybe a movie or game on the lap top DVD. You gotta figure - it's only 10 hours and some of that is sleep. It goes by pretty quickly then it's wakey, wakey. Time to get shakin' and see how many miles I can get in the rear view before turning into a pumpkin again. Mostly I run recap so no 34 hour reset down time but when I do, I do project stuff. Just like at home. Always a little something around the truck or Net you been meaning to do. Plus that's time to hit Wally World for re-stock or do laundry or both.
