I've been thinking to become a truck driver but the only concern is money of course. I've been reading allot on the internet how much truck drivers make and it doesn't look good at all, almost everyone is complaining about low wages. Again I can't rely on something I read without knowing if those ppl are real truckers or bullshiters.
Right now I have a job that I don't like that much but I bring home every month $3,000. that's after taxes. Would it be smart to risk this money in your opinion? I haven't done it before but knowing myself I wouldn't have a problem being 3 weeks away from home and do everything that any other trucker does.
Also I am very patient and mentally strong so the job itself shouldn't be a problem. Like I said the only concern that I have is will I be able to make 3k a month even if I have to work 7 days/week. Also if not how long will it take before I get in a position to make that much, 6 months, 1 year?
I'm from Vancouver, 32 years old and I'd really appreciate any info. Thanks
to be a trucker or not

You should have no trouble making that working 3 weeks. Biggest thing is finding the first job. Also do you wanna turn into a whiner like the rest of us . Hope this helps.

Depends what kind of trucking you want to do ... If you go to work in the oil in Alberta, from what I understand it pays very well(100k?). If you want to haul containers daily and be home, you might make $15 or so per hour. If you want to go long haul and paid by the mile, you should make anywhere from 40-70k a year. If you want to do LTL, those wages are all over the map, but they generally earn pretty good money, but they do not just sit and drive for long stretches. Trucking can really be mind-numbing. And by the time you factor in the cost of even only food on the road, the money you earn can get eaten up very quickly. It will come down to, you either love it or you hate it. The way I put it, I love to hate it every day.
If you decide to try it, do you know if you would be able to go back to what you are working at now? You would not want to go try trucking and decide it is a living nightmare and be at a dead end ...theb Thanks this. -
I like it although theres other careers that offer better money and less hassle. In regards to $3K, ofcourse you can do that easily every month.

Why don't you name a few other careers and I'll give you a Thanks.

Depends on what education and experience you have.

Exactly, your question was for $3K net. Even certain jobs with no experience or education can provide that ie. car salesman, furniture store sales, 1 ton delivery truck driver (you only need class 5), i even have some friends that work as waiters/waitresses at restaurant and they average over $100 every shift in cash tips alone plus hourly pay (you do the math thats actually over $3K/mth). Awaiting my.... "Thanks".

Its all in what you want to do.
I work in the patch in Alberta. I started off as a swamper and worked my way up. Got my license in sept 2012.
So 2013 was my first year as a driver. I made 85k last year. Ive put some time in with the company im working for, and last month they put me into a 2014 Tri drive Kenworth.theb Thanks this. -
