Can anyone give me any insight on buying a 2012 class 8 truck in Canada to bring it back to the states to operate? I specifically looking at a 2012 Mack. I would assume there wouldn't be any issues with emissions or safety. What about getting it across the border and is there any tax or registration issues?

I'm from not. Back in 2000 is sold my 88 k -w to a small dealer in MI. He told me it would cost him around 600 to import it properly at that time. Last year a guy I know sold his 6 axle in MI also. I think the new owner had to pay some of the FET. I think it was around 1500.

You'll have to pay FET on the purchase price, which is 12%

Most truck dealers in ONTARIO will handle the customs ,tax paperwork for you
Cetane+ Thanks this. -
I was wondering about this. Wanted to buy a truck from Gamache but wound up looking closer to home. That and my French is very bad.

I looked into it myself a while back, but the FET really sucks the savings out of the deal. I was looking into buying a new Damsen trailer last year, but not speaking French was a major hurdle. Then I got sticker shock!

Could you send it over in pieces to avoid FET?

I know a guy that bought a truck from Ontario a few years ago. The dealer took care of the import and shipping part of the deal. All he had to do was have a tx dps person inspect it and sign some papers.

The simple answer is to get the price this side of the boarder. As Flatbed said, the dealer should have no problem doing this.
