My dad just recently paid off his truck, and he has about 30 years OTR experience. I got my CDL in August 2012 and drove from September - December 2012, (including 275 hours of behind-the-wheel training with Werner) so only about 3 months of experience in the last 18. I am 22 years old and have a clean driving record. We would like to take the truck to a company and drive as a team. Is this possible, and if so, where should we look? Also, we live in Oklahoma City, if that helps.

I'm curious why you would train for 3 month and then not drive for a whole year. Recruiters are going to ask too. Your dad shouldn't have a problem leasing onto a company and then you would be his employee but could be up to a companies transgression who he hires. Good luck.

Well I wanted to work with him, and we both thought he was going to have the truck paid off sooner. Just turned out this way.

You can not make money with those per mile pay companies. On the high end they are all around 1.30/mile. If you go attack fuel mileage with the stone cold mentality of invading Normandy, you can get fuel down to 60 cents, so you are left with 70. Thats 25 cents more than the typical company mega carrier steering wheel holder. That is barely adequate to keep a truck in good mechanically sound shape. Now if you get away from those per mile pay scales, there is good money to be made. Find yourself a good percentage pay carrier pulling open deck. Landstar and mercer would be at the top of that list if it was me.

    DriverToBroker and ryuuou07 Thank this.
