When does a step deck load have to go on a dd because of height?
Whats the tallest you can permit on a step?

you can permit about any height you want, just routing and pole cars is all it is,14',no prob,16 'no prob, just money
seriously unless you get a step with small tires your dd is still gonna be lower

I have a step w. 17.5 tires. I call on loads and when I tell brokers I can permit the height just as easy as the width , they sound surprised. I know TX is pretty liberal , but I was wondering if there was something I did not know and the brokers did.
    Thx

It's a state by state thing, for example, in IA you can be required to have a pole car for a load over 14'-4" tall. The brokers rarely know anything you don't know, except maybe how to lie.

I've done it but sometimes not as easy as the width. All depends on the height and which states.

Even without a pole car your route can get crazy. You will likely have more miles in the load due to the permit routing you around bridges and stuff. DOT might want a route survey also. Add this stuff to the short days this time of year and you might miss your delivery/crane appointment....be careful.

    281ric Thanks this.

281ric - thanks, I looked it up. Looks like a RGN without the removable part. If you don't mind, what is the advantage of a dd over a rgn?

I would think "disadvantage" of a dd is not being able to drive up wheeled or tracked equip.

bergy, Cetane+ and Skwhirl Thank this.
