I do not know about Shaffer per say. I do know that as a husband and wife team, once you have both gotten your license and put enough time in to be allowed to drive as a team, you will be the most highly desired drivers out there. You will be split up at first.

Just remember your wife will not understand the lot lizards. So stay away from them.

wd40 have you talked to Covenant in Chattanooga? My wife and I trained together here and are now going on 4 years. Hazmat teams here get good miles. We did 226,000 miles in 2013. Best year yet. Good luck to you.

That is 4346 miles a week I'm hoping to average 5500-7000 a week... I'm not sure if I'm just dreaming or not.

5,500 - 7,000 is great and all but miles like that all the time doesn't leave much time to shower & all that other stuff.

    wd40 Thanks this.

You want to run those kind of miles, Schaffer is not going to make you happy in terms of consistent high-mileage weeks and you'd be doing it all at 64 MPH :biggrin_25512:

Are you now experienced or not, and looking down the road?

The only place you're going to get those kind of miles is in a "big truck" and running the eastern seaboard to the west coast and back, every week, week in and week out, and you'll still have to take a 34 restart somewhere. So home location and consistent, dependable runs is critical in the type of desired output. Many run like that for a while, but few are cut out to run like that for long.

I'm not experienced... my goals are to pay off home in two years... then balance out at a lesser pace while still being proffitable to our employer.

You may have to figure running a year where the running is not great to build some "hours". Once you [both] get 12 safe months with a reputable carrier, you can expand your employment options considerably looking for better miles/freight, 24 months and you can pretty much work wherever you want.

I know that's not going to allow you to make double/triple house payments in the beginning. It's just going to be real hard to find an outfit that will train and serve as a good starter company and has a good team division. You might consider Schneider too as they have a "team division" but I can't speak to how well they actually keep their teams moving. A lot will also depend on where home is.

I thought that Schneider may be a good choice, but no pet policy... you know the saying "If momma not happy..." gotta pick my battles carefully.

wd40, remember you won't work all 52 weeks in a year. A big mistake drivers do is divide annual miles by 52. We ran 42 weeks last year after home time and other safety classes. We averaged about 5400 per week for the weeks we ran. Your call as to where you go but Covenant loves to train teams and especially hazmat teams. We also have a drop yard in Lenoir City that you could use.
